Australia: Lebanese gang-rapist Skaf case sparks call for watch on rapists THE High Court's rejection of moves to restore the 46-year jail sentence for gang rapist Bilal Skaf has prompted a call for sex offenders to be monitored for the rest of their lives.
The call, from the NSW Rape Crisis Centre, came after the High Court upheld a lower court's reduction of Skaf's sentence to 28 years. Skaf committed a string of gang rapes in the southwestern suburbs of Sydney in 2000 and could be released from prison in 2023. NSW Premier Morris Iemma said he regretted the High Court's decision and that there was no further avenue of appeal. - (Newsroom) |

Alleged Burglar Gets Stuck in Oven Vent ORLANDO, Fla. -- An alleged burglar was rescued after he got stuck overnight in the oven vent of the convenience store he was trying to rob, the fire department said.
Investigators said Lonnie Shields, 37, climbed into a small vent on the roof of the New City Mart at about 2 a.m. and wasn't found until store employees arrived at about 8 a.m. Shields, who faces charges of burglary of a structure, was treated at a nearby hospital and booked into Orange County Jail on $1,000 bond. Shields, an alleged burglar, was rescued Thursday after he got stuck overnight in the oven vent of the convenience store he was trying to rob. - (crime) - (Newsroom) |
Mother and daughter tourists from Austria beaten and robbed by two blacks Authorities in Orange County, Fla., released a sketch of one of two men who beat and robbed an mother and daughter vacationing in the area from Austria. Investigators said the women were walking at a Best Western on the tourist-filled International Drive Thursday at about 1:30 a.m. when they were attacked by two men. The robbers took the women's passports and all of their money. A witness said he saw the men run up to the mother and daughter and beat them as they entered an elevator at the hotel. COPS CATCH BLACK 'DEVIL RAPIST' 
A vicious sexual predator who wore a Devil mask during a sadistic attack was busted in Brooklyn yesterday, police said. Gerard Mitchell, 29 was nabbed a day after cops released details of three sex assaults and blanketed surrounding streets with a sketch of the suspect.
Mitchell was arrested in the Moore St. apartment he shares with his wife and other relatives after a tipster called the cops. A man who lives in the building said Mitchell had mentioned recently that he owned a Devil mask.

Mental Health Counselor Charged With Watching Porn With Minor Girl  A Polk County mental health counselor was arrested Wednesday for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Investigators said Terrence Hays, who worked at the Peace River Center mental health organization in Bartow, smoked marijuana with a 16-year-old girl he was supposed to be helping kick a drug problem.
Investigators said Hays visited the girl at her home in Lakeland and they smoked marijuana together. She drank alcohol and they watched a porn video.
The girl secretly taped the episode and later showed it to her parents, who called law enforcement. - (Newsroom) |

Gay Sex Chat led to murder, jurors told Jurors heard about the last moments that Sean Ethan Owen spent with his family before the 2004 morning he was found dead in the Eno River. Owen was excited because he had plans later to meet up with a guy he had been chatting with online. Shelton DeAngelo Epps.is one of three men indicted in the 2004 kidnapping, robbery and killing of Owen.
Co-defendant Matthew Taylor, 18, was convicted in July and is serving a life sentence. The third defendant, Derrick A. Maiden, 19, testified against Taylor in exchange for a lesser murder charge.
The three were accused of luring Owen to Durham on the prospect of sex. Once Owen arrived, prosecutors contend, the three men took him to Old Farm Park shot him twice in the head and stole his car.

Man Charged With Rape Of Slain Stepdaughter SALISBURY, N.C. -- Police charged Reginald Weeks Jr., the stepfather accused of a killing his 18-year-old stepdaughter, with the girl's rape. Back in July, Brittany Loritts' body was found in her home on Scales Street outside of downtown Salisbury. 16-Year-Old White Girl Faces Alleged Rapist, Murder Suspect In Court  BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A girl was in court to face the man who is charged with raping her -- a man who is also accused in the rape of another woman and the murder of a Boca Raton nanny. The girl, who is now 16, was 14 years old at the time of the alleged rape. She said she had met Jerry Wiggins in 2003, when they lived in the same apartment complex in Coral Springs. She said Wiggins took her to an apartment where he overpowered her and raped her seven times throughout the night. The teen, who cried throughout her testimony, said that when Wiggins was preparing to leave for work the next day, she was able to escape. She said she immediately went home, told her mother what happened, and called police. Wiggins was arrested last January in the rape of a Charlotte, N.C., woman. The woman picked Wiggins, whom she knew as "Jay," out of a lineup. Sports: High School teacher and coach and former College footballer Faces Sex Charges MARION, S.C. (AP) - A Marion High School teacher and coach and former Wofford College footballer has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Shawn Graves turned himself in. He was ordered to have no contact with the 15-year-old girl, who is a student at the school.
Graves is a Marion High School graduate and played quarterback at Wofford where he held six NCAA Division II records.
Graves has been suspended with pay pending further
investigation. This was Graves' first year at the school as a teacher and coach.

Mom Of 9 Arrested After Child Found Brain Dead A 31-year-old mother of nine children was arrested early Wednesday after one of her children was found brain dead in his room by a family member, according to WKMG-TV in Orlando. Roman Peterson, 6, was found unconscious and in critical condition with a head injury by his aunt Monday night inside an apartment at The Grand Reserve apartments in Orlando. The boy's mother, Andrienne Wilkerson, could not be found. After a 12-hour search, police found Wilkerson at a nearby apartment at the complex. Black arrested in murder of White teenager Jennifer Ross   Police have made an arrest in the murder of 19-year-old Jennifer Ross. They are not releasing a lot of information at the moment in this high-profile case, but this afternoon they arrested Michael Thorpe, 25, who they say shot Ross. Investigators say he is a key suspect and more arrests may follow. Ross was shot in Orleans Square in Savannah on Christmas Eve. She was walking with some friends after going to a cotillion downtown when a group of men tried to mug them, then shot Ross in the stomach. She died on New Year's Day. Convicted Child Rapist Wanted In Baltimore County Baltimore County police seek the public's help to find an unaccounted-for sex offender convicted of rape.
Authorities identified the man as Maurice Nathaniel Jackson, 41, and said he remains at large, wanted on a warrant for noncompliance with the state's Sex Offender Registry.
According to police, Jackson was convicted of a 1984 rape in the D.C. In 1998, Jackson was paroled from jail and was registered as a child sexual offender. Sex offenders are required by state law to update their address yearly.
Police described Jackson as a black male who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 230 pounds. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
