WI Officials Try To Stop Soldier Funeral Protests
Some of the people who attended Sgt. Andrew P. Wallace's visitation weren't there to remember the fallen soldier. Instead, the members of a Kansas-based church carried signs that read "Thank God for dead soldiers." Fred Phelps and members of his Westboro Baptist Church blame U.S. military deaths on what they call God's retribution against a country that accepts homosexuality. The church has protested at ceremonies for two other Wisconsin National Guard soldiers who died in Iraq, as well as about 80 funerals and visitations nationwide, according to the group.

William Oliver Reese, 21, beat and robbed Yoshie Sato, 56, of about $129 on a street in Yokosuka on Jan. 3, according to a Kanagawa Prefectural Police official who spoke on condition of anonymity citing police protocol. She died of her injuries.

  A Williston man who admitted repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl for four years was sentenced Wednesday to spend only 60 days in prison -- a punishment that angered the victim's family but was defended by the judge as the only way to provide counseling for the perpetrator.
  Mark Hulett, 34, pleaded guilty in August to two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one charge of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child, all felonies. He faced up to life in prison on the charges.   Judge Edward Cashman's sentence, which he handed down after a two-hour hearing in Vermont District Court in Burlington, could incarcerate Hulett for the rest of his life if he fails to obtain counseling or otherwise follow instructions once he is freed in 60 days. - (-88-)
