| Illegal Immigrants, Long Islanders Clash FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. -- This middle-class Long Island community an hour from New York City and 2,000 miles from the Mexican border has become an unlikely flashpoint in the national debate over illegal immigration, with Hispanics beaten, harassed and evicted in recent weeks. For more than a decade, immigrants from Mexico or Central America have been drawn to Long Island by the prospect of jobs. Many stand on street corners in Farmingville, waiting for contractors, landscapers and others to offer them a day's work at about $10 an hour. | Orthodox Jew beaten by two black men in racial attack An orthodox Jewish man was beaten by two black men in Crown Heights as they spewed hate-filled words at him, police said yesterday. The 50-year-old victim was walking home when the men sneaked up behind him, hit him and knocked off his glasses, cops said. They punched him repeatedly in the face and demanded to know what he was doing in his own neighborhood, the victim and cops said. | Darkest Africa: 'Barbaric' attackers gouge out victim's eyes Two KwaMashu criminals used the most callous way of hiding their identity - by gouging out the eyes of their victim. Horrified doctors and nurses treating 19-year-old Bongani Mngonyama have described his attackers as barbaric, while residents of KwaMashu Section A, where he was attacked, are deeply shocked. Doctors said that Mngonyama's eyes were removed in such a way that there was nothing they could do to mend them. Sumter Man Sentenced to Life for Death of Teenage Girl  A Sumter County man has been sentenced to life in prison in his third trial in the stabbing death of a teenage girl.
The jury deliberated about two hours before convicting Latorey Green in the death of 17-year-old Mechelle Beard.
Her body was found in February 2000 wrapped in a sheet in a ditch. Green's two earlier trials ended with hung juries. Prosecutors say Beard's killer left bloody shoe prints in the
home. One found on a bedroom comforter matched a boot taken from

New Orleans: Feds Search Homes, Car Of Rep. William Jefferson  "Today, federal law enforcement officers executed search warrants on my Washington, D.C., and New Orleans homes as well as my vehicle in Washington. Subpoenas were issued to me, in my official capacity, to the clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives and to members of my Washington and New Orleans office staff. | Russia: Satanists brutally torture and crucify 12-year-old boy The whole of Russia was discussing the shocking accident in the city of Krasnoyarsk (Siberia), when five teenage boys mysteriously disappeared and then were found dead in a sewage well. The horrible story repeated again, although this time in the Moscow region. Three boys (two brothers and their friend) between eleven and thirteen years of age, residing in a small regional town, were missing on July 19th. One of the brothers was found dead on Sunday morning, whereas the fate of two other boys still remains unknown. - (Panzer list) |

Court for Man Accused of Hate Crime Murder at Galleria Mall (White Plains) — A homeless man who police say confessed to murdering a woman at a Westchester Mall is being arraigned on hate crime charges today. Phillip Grant, a convicted rapist, allegedly said that the killing was part of his plan to start a race war. On June 29th Concetta Russo-Carriero was stabbed to death in a garage across from the Galleria Mall. Hours after his arrest, police say that Phillip Grant, a convicted sex offender, gave them a videotaped confession. In it they say he claimed to be involved in a race war and that he killed Russo Carriero because she was white. - (hatecrimes) |
Serial rape suspect indicted in Savannah  A grand jury charged a man suspected of a series of rapes in Georgia and South Carolina with five assaults in Chatham County. Ron O'Neil Young of Savannah was indicted on 31 counts, including rape, kidnapping, and aggravated sexual battery. The 23-year-old Young, who was arrested in Georgia after a July 6th attack on a woman in Walterboro, South Carolina, also was charged with armed robbery, hijacking of a motor vehicle, aggravated sodomy, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Abortion clinic janitor accused of sexually assaulting aspiring models - Ref: Teen Raped at Abortion Clinic  The owner of a Bridgeport modeling agency has pleaded innocent to sexual assault charges.
Forty-two-year-old Michael Britt was in Bridgeport Superior Court today on charges he sexually assaulted three teenagers who had signed on for his modeling agency. Police say the three girls, ages 18, 17 and 14, complained in April they had been sexually assaulted by Britt, who recruited them with the promise of modeling jobs. Michael Britt sexually abused the teens, telling one that having sex would give her a model's walk and raping another under the guise of giving her an abortion. - (crime) |
Tyreese Lamar Reed Arrested in Series of Koreatown Rapes LOS ANGELES — The suspected "Koreatown Rapist," who attacked women in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Glendale, was being held today on $5 million bail after being linked to some of the assaults through DNA. Tyreese Lamar Reed, an electronics technician who told police he was a parole agent, was arrested at his Koreatown home. Reed was allegedly linked to six of the 13 victims by DNA evidence. But county prosecutors charged Reed with 18 counts involving seven alleged victims. - (crime) |
Sports: Former Montana State basketball player pleads guilty in rape case  Former Montana State point guard Frank Brown pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of rape as part of an agreement possibly allowing him to avoid a prison term. Brown originally denied the charges but later acknowledged having sex with a
15-year-old girl on two separate occasions. Under Montana law, a 15-year-old
can`t consent to sex.
If it`s found that Brown, 21, can be treated in a community atmosphere the plea agreement will be honored and he would spend only 30 days in jail, three years on probation, undergo treatment and register as a sexual offender. - (White Boy) - (more sports) |
Spanish-speaking Neighbor Charged With Killing 16-year-old Girl-Next-Door - dismembering body   MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- As relatives grew frantic searching for a 16-year-old girl who had been missing for hours, her neighbors were having a party. The sound of laughter and singing, including the strains of "Happy Birthday" in Spanish, wafted from the house next door as family members searched for Jennifer Parks. What they didn't know was that the girl was already dead, her dismembered body stuffed into a steamer trunk and stashed in the back of a neighbor's car just a few feet away. The girl's 18-year-old next-door neighbor Jonathan A. Zarate pleaded innocent to her murder. Zarate invited the 16-year-old to his home to watch television but became angry,
punching, beating and then stabbing her in the basement about 2 a.m. Zarate used a knife to cut the legs off

Balmore Portillo Merino sought in connection with rape of 13-year-old girl found in Charlotte Cleveland man wanted in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl turned up at a Charlotte hospital after his daughter was injured in an accident. A witness told hospital officials in Charlotte that Rowan authorities wanted Balmore Portillo Merino, 35. Those hospital workers then contacted the police.Merino, who also uses the alias Balmore Jose Ortega and at least eight other aliases, was charged Monday with first-degree rape of a child. - (White Boy) - (crime) |

UK: ASIAN GANG ASSAULT DAD IN VICIOUS TERRORIST ATTACK  A father has told how he urged his son to flee moments before he was set upon by a gang of Asian thugs in a vicious street attack.
Trevor Kinson, 48, was today recovering in hospital from injuries to his face and body after a gang tried to mug him as he walked home from a football match with his 10-year-old son. Mr Kinson and his son Nathan were walking when three men approached them. They told Mr Kinson to hand over his wallet, but he refused. He told his son to run home, at which point the gang attacked the man, repeatedly kicking and punching him in his face, body and arms. Following the attack, the gang ran off empty handed. Mr Kinson, a single parent, went home but was taken to Burton's Queen's Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning with severe facial injuries, broken ribs and a broken hand. Police said they identified him through store surveillance pictures. A man was seen taking several pictures under a woman's skirt July 5 at a local service station. The woman was waiting in line at the time. She confronted him and he fled. Avila faces similar charges in Northglenn. Avila guilty Wednesday and will spend 20 days in jail. 
A month after the fact, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is still getting kicked around for his speech on the prison at Guantanamo Bay. The speech itself was nothing new for the anti-war Durbin; the shellacking started when he read from an FBI agent's e-mail alleging ugly prisoner abuses, and said that if anyone had read this e-mail out of context, they'd "most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime—Pol Pot or others—that had no concern for human beings." It was downhill from there, as every war-supporter with a microphone or blog howled for Durbin's blood. His crime: invoking the Nazis.
