Oswaldo Martinez, a 34-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, raped and murdered white girl   indicted on charges of raping and killing 16-year-old Brittany Binger. According to police, Martinez lived with relatives in a trailer in the Windy
Hill Mobile Home Park - the same trailer park where Binger lived. She was a slender, pretty girl, sentimental by nature, tough by necessity. A newspaper carrier found her two hours before dawn Monday. She was on her back,
legs together, arms outstretched -- "a crucifix position," police called it. An autopsy confirmed that she had been raped.

Victim's Husband Testifies In Capital Murder Trial  HOUSTON -- The widower of a slain Pearland woman testified Monday in the trial of his wife's accused killer. Lamar Baskin Jr., 44, was charged with capital murder in the shooting and
robbery of Laura Powell Higgins, 28. The interior designer was killed on Dec.
20, 2002, when she made a quick stop at a southeast Houston warehouse that was
leased by her employer, Perry Homes. Higgins' body was found near the warehouse and authorities said her purse and keys were missing.
Higgins' family sat in the courtroom during the first day of testimony. They want Baskin to receive the maximum sentence -- death. Authorities believe Baskin is responsible for murdering, robbing and raping at
least eight other people, but he has not been charged with those crimes.

Police Arrest Naked African-american in Tree - Charge Him With Attempted Rape Raleigh police interrupted a violent assault Monday night after they heard a woman screaming. Authorities arrested 50-year-old Andrew Freeman and charged him with attempted rape, kidnapping and felony strangulation.
Officers found Freeman hiding in a tree with no clothes just blocks from where they say he tried to attack a woman on South Wilmington Street.

Officials seek Brown sex offender A 41-year old convicted sex offender who failed to register his address with police is being sought by authorities.
Dennis Brown is considered a high-risk, or Tier 3, offender on the New Jersey Sex Offender Internet Registry. He served six years in prison for a first-degree aggravated sexual-assault conviction.
Brown raped a girl whom he threatened with a weapon after meeting her through the acquaintance of a family member. He has also used the aliases Harold Dennis and Bashia Husain. - (Svejk) - (crime) |
Florida Highway Patrol Captain Turns Himself In For Arrest ORLANDO, Fla. -- A top-ranking commander with the Florida Highway Patrol has been arrested. FHP is being very tight-lipped about the circumstances that led up to Captain Sterling King's arrest, but it is the talk of the troopers in the Orlando district with word that one of their highest ranking captains is facing five years in prison. He is charged with a third-degree felony involving bribery and misuse of public

| Two reporters suspended for mentioning race of suspects in crime story Two writers named Johnson and McGonigle from the North Andover based Eagle-Tribune were suspended for three days without pay after exercising their First Amendment right to free speech in a series of inter-office e-mail exchanges. It began when production editor Donna Green Capodelupo issued a memorandum stating that writers, "Refrain from using race to describe or identify people in crime stories, for example, ‘a black man in a green jacket and baseball cap.’" - (Svejk comments) |
| Over ten million illegal aliens in the U.S. and the government raids retirement homes for dying 'Nazi's Feds ask court to strip Chicago carpenter of citizenship for helping Nazis  The federal government says a Chicago carpenter worked for the Nazis during World War II. They say he helped round up Ukrainian Jews who were then sent to Nazi concentration camps. The government went to court Monday to try and have his citizenship revoked.
Osyp Firishchak is in his mid 80's with prostate cancer and has never been in any trouble with the law, and his neighbors like him a great deal, but the Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations is seeking to revoke his U.S. citizenship for what he allegedly did in war-torn Europe over six decades ago.
The 86-year-old retired carpenter has lived more than half a century in Chicago after moving from his native Ukraine. His attorneys say Firishchak has lived an exemplary life, and his longtime neighbors hold him in high regard. - (reader link) |

Suspect in Elderly Rape in Custody
The man police say brutally beat and raped an 89-year-old woman is in police custody.
Police say Sidney Howell turned himself in Sunday.
Howell told police he was afraid and wanted to surrender to face charges.
Howell allegedly entered the Gwinnett County woman's home, beat her, sexually assaulted her and stole her car in June.
Howell faces several charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and burglary. - (White Boy) - (crime) |
UK: Black stabs white man to death on a bus over 'chips'  Richard Whelan, 28, was repeatedly knifed in front of his girlfriend after telling the (black) hoodie yob to stop throwing food at top deck passengers.
Despite his wounds, Richard tried to stop his attacker escaping. But he collapsed as he reached the bottom of the stairs — and shocked passengers rang police.
The killer then fled from the No 43 bus in Holloway, North London, on Friday night.
Hospitality agent Richard, of Kentish Town, died within hours in hospital. He and fellow passengers had endured 15 minutes of the thug throwing food at them. Richard challenged him when chips were thrown directly at his girlfriend. ALBANY, N.Y. — A 42-year-old teacher at a Catholic school who was charged with rape for allegedly having sex with an underage male student posted a $20,000 bond Tuesday and was released from jail. Authorities said Sandra Beth Geisel had sex with four students from the Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie, N.Y., but in three of the cases the boys were 17-years-old and therefore were legally able to give their consent. Geisel faces sexual assault charges for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old boy. 
The prosecution made closing arguments Monday in Atlanta in the trial of two men accused of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in the shooting death of DeKalb County Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown in December 2000.
Melvin Walker and David Ramsey are accused of conspiring with former DeKalb County Sheriff 
ARLINGTON, Va. -- A man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of breaking into a home last week and attempting to sexually assault two women.
