• Mexican Cannibal Accused of Roasting Companion
  Police in Playa de Carmen, just south of the Caribbean resort of Cancun, reported finding a suspect passed out next to the sliced-up remains of his companion, a man whose heart he had allegedly carved out and set to cook on a stove. The corpse was discovered Tuesday in a hut where the victim had been hung up to allow the blood to drain out of his body. A passer-by alerted police after he saw the body hanging from the rafters of the hut; police arrested a man who inhabited the hut, tentatively identified as Amado de Dios Arias, 26. Arias had apparently carved out the man's heart, and cut off ribs and slice of his thigh, to cook because he felt "curious" about how the flesh would taste, police reported. - (NNN Mexico)

• Child rapist José Garcia gets 65 yrs.
  A Brentwood dad convicted of raping and leaving for dead a 13-year-old girl received no mercy yesterday from a Suffolk judge who saddled him with 65 years in prison. José Garcia, 43, was found guilty last month in the March attack on the girl as she walked home from a Brentwood candy store. Yesterday, he received three consecutive sentences - 25 years for rape, 25 for attempted murder and an additional 15 for sexual abuse. "You, sir, don't deserve to walk among free society, and those in your community deserve to be free from you," Suffolk County Court Judge Ralph Gazzillo admonished the rapist. In the woods, Garcia savagely raped and beat the girl, then, after the victim played dead, he buried her under leaves and a discarded truck tire. The 80-pound girl managed to crawl naked to the street, where her mother found her. - (The Bobster)

  Authorities say a 23-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant was killed at her home and had the fetus cut from her womb.
  The Sheriff's Department is investigating the afternoon killing of the woman and they are searching for the baby, who they believed could have survived. "Someone was wanting a baby awful bad," said Sheriff Bill Espey. Ref: "Night of the Living Fetus"

• Student Lai Chau Awarded $5.7 Million in Abduction Suit
  Lai Chau, 23, was abducted in December 2001 and shot in the head three times during a carjacking by two men. The shooter, Jabari "J.B." Armstrong, is serving a life sentence. Tobaris Arrington, who also participated in the abduction, is serving a 17-year prison term. A third participant, Anthony Smith, was sentenced to seven years in prison.

• Cuban-born Cocaine Smuggler Gets 30 Years in Prison
  Alex Decubas, a Cuban-born naturalized American citizen, admitted helping run a small fleet of ships and boats, including a Danish freighter, to carry cocaine into south Florida. He also allegedly built two submarines, one that was seized in Colombia and another that sank in a test off Colombia.

  Hernandez was captured just west of the Colorado state line after a half-hour standoff with the Utah Highway Patrol.

• Defense: Illegal Truck Migrants Killed Each Other
  Attorneys for three alleged participants in a smuggling operation that left 19 people dead suggested Wednesday that the victims were killed by fellow illegal immigrants who turned against them as conditions inside a sweltering tractor-trailer became unbearable. The allegations were made by a survivor who also said other immigrants had suggested cutting up the body of a 5-year-old victim in a grisly attempt to signal for help.

One of his alleged recruits is Jose Padilla, who is being held by the United States as an enemy combatant on suspicion of plotting to detonate a radioactive "dirty bomb" in the United States.
