White female Birmingham attorney found safe after abduction, black suspect held
  BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The ordeal began early in the morning, when witnesses say they saw a gunman force a family law attorney back into the Lexus she was driving. Then, they sped away.
It ended nine hours later, when authorities found 34-year-old Sandra Eubank Gregory at a Comfort Inn motel a few miles away. Police swarmed the motel around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday and arrested Dedrick Griham, 35, holding him down on a walkway outside of a second floor motel room before putting him in the back of a police car. Colored Youth Charged In Fatal Shooting Of White Wayne County Teen * White High school student shot and killed  N.C. -- A Goldsboro teenegro was charged with murder after authorities say he shot another teen in a car. John Paul Setliff, 17, of Freemont, was shot while sitting in a vehicle at about 2:35 a.m. Monday. Setliff was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound, but later died. Sheriff's officials said that four teens were on Albert Drive off Perkins Road when someone fired a handgun and a bullet hit Setliff. Sheriff's officials said that the gun was found and that alcohol and drugs were involved. Timothy W. Alston, 17, was charged with murder and is being held without bond. Skull Found in creek ID'd as 5-year-old White girl Emily Rimel - kidnaped, raped and murdered by black   A skull found in a creek earlier this week has been identified as that of a five-year-old columbus-area girl who disappeared a year and a-half ago. Investigators have identified the remains of Emily Rimel through DNA. Emily was last seen at her home early in the morning on December 7th, 2004. Two people fishing found the skull on Tuesday. The Coroner ays there was trauma to the skull. With confirmation that the remains are those of Emily Rimel, the prosecutor's office can move ahead with plans to seek murder charges against the main suspect. Lindsay Bruce, is serving a 10-year sentence after he was convicted of kidnapping Rimel in December 2004. At the time, Bruce was not charged with murder. While Ohio law does not require the presence of a corpse to charge someone in a homicide, doing so without a body does raise the chances that a jury could acquit. O'Brien says this could easily become a death penalty case based on several factors, including Rimel's age. Over the next few weeks, reports will be written state crime lab investigators and the county coroner's office. Black Suspect Arrested In Fatal Ambush Of White Orlando Mom   Police in Orlando, Fla., arrested one of two men sought in the ambush and fatal shooting of a mother last week. Deborah Culin had just stepped off a bus and was heading home when she was killed. "Orlando police say Toris Oliver is responsible." Someone recognized Oliver from surveillance photos that showed Oliver and another man using Cullin's credit card just 9 mintues after she was murdered. Oliver allegedly filled up two cars with gas and then purchased more than $150 worth of food. Cullins family said they want whoever is responsible behind bars. Black youth Demetrick to stand trial as an adult in murder of White woman teacher  Ala. A judge has ordered a 16-year-old Moulton boy charged in the fatal beating of a veteran teacher to stand trial as an adult. Demetrick Young, who was 15 at the time of the alleged attack, pleaded not guilty and remains in custody at the Lawrence County Jail. But a defense attorney said there is no evidence linking her client to the attack. Ouida Brown of Tuscumbia said she plans to appeal Thursday's ruling by District Judge Randel Mullican. Young is charged with murder in the October 26th attack on 55-year-old Judy Jester at the Family Education Campus in Moulton, where she was working an after-school job. Crazed black psycho-killer smiled with glee as he targeted children and their White mother with his car  Investigators say 46-year-old Lanny Barnes struck five people at a McDonald’s deliberately on Tuesday. One of the victims, 2-year-old Avery King, died on Wednesday afternoon as a result of her injuries. On Wednesday morning, a Newton County judge denied bail for Barnes, ordering a mental evaluation. Late on Wednesday afternoon, Paul Casola had the difficult and emotional job of announcing the death of his niece. “I regret to inform you that the brutal attempt to take someone’s life has succeeded. Driver Who Ran Down 5 Denied Bond The injured include 33-year-old Stephanie Casola of Covington, who's listed in stable condition at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital. Her two sons, 4-year-old Jacob and 3-year-old Isaac, were flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite along with their 2-year-old cousin, Avery Nicole King. While the boys were listed in stable condition, the little girl is extremely critical. Her mother, 36-year-old Anita King, was treated and released from Newton General Hospital. Police in Covington continued to investigate whether Barnes intended to run over the victims with his vehicle or whether it was an accident. Witnesses said Barnes seemed to intentionally run his Honda Accord over the two sisters and their three children. Life sentence for black attendant for rape of White 82-year-old Mandeville Alzheimer’s patient A former attendant at an assisted-living home has been sentenced to life in prison for raping an 82-year-old Alzheimer’s patient in October 2004. Derrick Garrett, 49, proclaimed his innocence Monday before State District Judge Patricia Hedges issued the sentence. Defense attorney Mike Nunnery, suggested the jury that convicted Garrett was motivated by racism because the victim is an elderly white woman and the defendant is black. But Assistant District Attorney David Weilbaecher said the case was decided by forensic evidence. “This wasn’t a black or white thing,” the prosecutor said. Garrett was convicted Aug. 4, 2005, after a three-day trial — and 16 minutes of jury deliberations. Garrett was working as a caretaker at a Mandeville facility when the attack occurred Oct. 11, 2004, authorities said. Two of his co-workers testified that they became suspicious after seeing him emerge from a bathroom where the woman was found soon afterward with her pants pulled down. Family outraged as black killer gets stay of execution    It was news the family of a murdered Houston teenager did not want to hear. One of the gang members convicted of brutally raping and strangling her and her friend got a stay of execution 24 hours before that sentence was to be carried out. "His time is up, you know," said Dolph Pena, whose daughter was murdered 13 years ago. "It's time to step up to the plate. Take it like a man."
Pena is so mad that his body shakes and his voice quivers. He had hoped to see one of the men who killed his daughter die by lethal injection Tuesday. "I don't know in God's name how five judges can give this guy a stay," he said. "Maybe they don't remember the trial." Much of Houston does. They remember how 16-year-old Elizabeth Pena and 14-year-old best friend Jennifer Ertman were attacked in June of 1993 as they scrambled to get home before curfew. Testimony showed the girls were repeatedly raped and sodomized, beaten and strangled by shoelaces and belts for an hour. Derrick O'Brien, who was 19 years old back then, was one of three others who confessed and was sentenced to die. "Come on, guys. This is a long time coming. Thirteen years? I wish Elizabeth could have lived another 13 years," said Pena. "I mean, Jesus Christ. You might as well put a knife through me, man." Pena says he was devastated to hear O'Brien's execution stayed. And the reasons, based on unconstitutional cruelty, are infuriating. "I wish to God they could see what Elizabeth went through -- the way she was murdered and raped and stomped over and over for hours and hours. That's cruel," said Pena. " He victimized my daughter. He's just got to lie there and take the needle and go to sleep. I mean, how cruel is that?" "They went to trial. They got a fair trial. They gave them the death sentence," he said. "It's time to die. Black Man Found Guilty In Savage Attack on 83-year-old White Grandma   WASHINGTON -- A man has been found guilty of beating and robbing an elderly street vendor outside her apartment building near George Washington University. James Dorsey was charged with armed robbery and assault in last May's attack that was captured on videotape by a surveillance camera mounted near the building's loading dock. The images were shown repeatedly on TV, prompting tips from the public. The woman, known as "Grandma," sold shirts, hats, umbrellas and other souvenirs near the Foggy Bottom Metro Station. Each charge against Dorsey carries a maximum of 30 years. Ex-Convict Sought In Shooting Of SCSU Student   New Haven police said they are looking for an ex-convict in the fatal shooting of a Southern Connecticut State University student. Benjamin Bell was a vendor who sold DVDs and CDs in the mall where 23-year-old Mark N. Stetson of N.H., was shot Monday afternoon during an argument. "We are strongly encouraging Mr. Bell to turn himself in. Because he is considered to be armed and dangerous. Police recovered a handgun at the scene. Black female bus aide charged with beating disabled 9-year-old White boy  A bus aide beat a 9-year-old developmentally delayed boy because he was "a brat," then laughed about it while the child cried for his mother, according to court records and a security camera tape. Theresa L. Anderson, 29, of Lansing, Ill., was charged with battery, intimidation and neglect. Police issued an arrest warrant Thursday, but no further information was available on whether she was in custody Friday. There was no number under Anderson's name in published phone listings for Lansing. The video shows a woman court records identify as Anderson holding the boy by the back of the neck and head, pushing him down the aisle and ripping his hat off his head. She throws him into a seat, causing him to hit his head, then leans on him while he is down in the seat. Later, she knocks the boy off his seat and beats him while he is on the floor, the tape shows. Afterward, the woman tells the bus driver she beat the boy because she "didn't like him; he's a brat," and she and the driver laugh while the boy cries for his mother. The boy's mother, Mary Hawkins, said her son is developmentally behind others his age because he was deaf the first two years of his life. Prosecutors say he knew what he was doing and should die for it. But Shareef's lawyers say he's insane, and, therefore, not guilty. Shareef allegedly stole two cars and led authorities through three counties before being taken into custody in April 2004. Along the way, he allegedly hit five pedestrians. One man was killed. Four people, including Gary Weller, were hurt and are still recovering. Shareef was sent to Dorothea Dix Mental Hospital after the incidents. At first, a judge ruled he wasn’t competent to stand trial. Now a judge has decided differently. Both sides are planning their next moves. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. Defense lawyers said Shareef will plead insanity. They say Shareef attempted to back up the van to strike David McCaskill a second time, but did not. Shareef reportedly got out of the van and hit McCaskill with his hands. Fayetteville police say at 8:08 a.m., Shareef truck 55-year-old Gary Lee Weller with the stolen van near Ramsey Street and Summerchase. At 8:21 a.m., the van struck Robert Fortier, who was walking along the roadside of Ramsey Street. Shareef abandoned the van in Cumberland County and went to 56-year-old Lonel Bearl Bass, who was driving in his pickup truck, to ask for directions. Bass had stopped by to check on dogs at the Linden Hunting Club. Shareef was able to get Bass out of his vehicle and ran him over, sometime after 9:40 a.m. Bass, a volunteer firefighter, was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. |
Murder Trial of Black Airman Begins In Iceland - accused in murder of White female "airman" Ashley Turner   A military hearing to determine if an Air Force serviceman could face court-martial on five charges -- including the murder of an airman from Frederick -- began yesterday in Iceland. The hearing at the U.S. Naval Air Station here involves the case of Airman Calvin Eugene Hill, 20, of Warren, Ohio. Hill is accused of killing Airman 1st Class Ashley Turner. Turner, 20, was found fatally injured in her dormitory in August on the Icelandic base with what was described as trauma to the head and neck. She had been scheduled to testify against Hill, who was facing charges that included larceny and wrongful appropriation. Hill and Turner were co-workers until he was implicated in a string of unauthorized withdrawals using her bank card. She was waiting to testify against him when she was found slain.

Killer was right about child support error but Rape and murder are not rational responses to resolving one's concerns over child support  Herbert L. Chalmers, who told a victim during a violent rampage last week that he was angry over child support, was right about being assessed too much.
There was an error in data entry, boosting his monthly obligation more than fivefold. Chalmers ignored many opportunities to correct the error. "Rape and murder are not rational responses to resolving one's concerns over child support obligations," Scott said. As of April 18, the day of the attacks that left four people and Chalmers dead, the department was garnisheeing 50 percent of his paycheck
. 'I could have stopped them' - said Sandra Stamps, white girlfriend rape victim of black killer. Stamps, 44, who said she dated Chalmers off and on for almost 20 years, sobbed at times. Stamps said Chalmers forced her into sex before leaving on his murder spree. Chalmers traveled by bus to a Wal-Mart in Bridgeton, took ammunition without paying for it and headed again by bus to Finninger's Catering Service in the West End, where he had worked for about a year. There, he killed co-owner Cleo Finninger, 79, and her daughter, Christine Politte, 44. Another employee, Patricia Ann Meier, 48, was wounded. Finally, Chalmers fatally shot himself in the parking lot. A day later, another woman, Carol D. Moore, 35, was found dead from gunshot wounds in an apartment on the 5400 block of Delmar Avenue, where Chalmers often stayed with another woman. ‘If it was a mistake, it cost the lives of my family’ Did the state make some kind of mistake in calculating Herbert L. Charlie Finninger survived the shooting at his family's catering business on Thursday after employees pushed him into a cooler. But the shooter, Herbert L. Chalmers, killed Finninger's wife, Cleo, 79, and their only child, Christine Politte, 44. Chalmers injured a third employee before committing suicide in the company parking lot. Before the shooting at Finninger's Catering Service, Chalmers killed the mother of his four children and a woman who was in a former girlfriend's apartment, police said. Finninger says the gunman, Herbert Chalmers Junior, was upset about child support being taken out of his check. Chalmers killed 5 people including himself. One woman survived. "I don't understand why," said Finninger. His wife Cleo and Charlie were at Finninger's Catering Tuesday afternoon when Herbert Chalmers walked in and started shooting. An employee pushed Charlie's wheelchair into a cooler when she heard the shots.
"I got out of the cooler and my daughter was laying in the front by the overhead door. A short distance away my wife was laying," according to Charlie. Dark Demon Sex Offender Charged With Kidnap-Rape-Kill of White 11-year-old Jacksonville Girl In 1996  Fla. -- A Connecticut sex offender will be returned to Florida to face a murder charge after being linked to the decade-old rape and drowning of an 11-year-old girl through a database of DNA from convicted sex offenders. Robert Shelton Mitchell, 43, was being held on a $5 million bond after being arraigned as a fugitive. He will face first-degree murder and capital sexual battery charges in the death of Cherie Morrisette of Jacksonville. The Mandarin Middle School student body was found on Dec. 8, 1996, floating in the St. John's River about 10 miles south of the apartment she shared with her mother and sister. An autopsy determined that Cherie drowned shortly after her disappearance on Dec. 2, 1996, and was alive when she either fell into the river or was thrown in. Police labeled the death suspicious, and authorities found a small DNA sample on her underwear and body. Mitchell lived in nearby Middleburg at the time of the girl's death, police said Thursday. Mitchell later moved to Connecticut and was convicted in January 2003 of illegal sexual contact with another child.
