Former city employee charged A former Austin code inspector has been charged after police say he accepted money from someone he was supposed to investigate. Douglas Bedford, 29, faces a charge of abuse of official capacity.
According to a news release from the Austin Police Department, investigators say Bedford was working for Solid Waste Services when he was assigned to inspect a property at 1500 South Pleasant Valley in 2003. The case was open for two years, but no action was taken to force the owner to comply with code.
Bedford was fired from the City of Austin, and that's when the detectives began their investigation. - (Newsroom) |

Third Suspect Arrested In Kidnap and Gang Rape of Japanese Exchange Student    MIAMI 23 year old Marcus Jamal 'Lips' Harris is now in police custody, facing charges of kidnapping and sexual battery involving a Japanese exchange student on Miami Beach last Thanksgiving. He was taken into custody today in Homestead, just a day after police arrested two of his friends allegedly along the night the student's attack. One suspect turned himself in on his father’s orders, after the father saw his son’s picture in the newspaper.
Police say 20-year-old Michael Simmons is being charged with one count each of sexual battery, strong-arm robbery and kidnapping.
Investigators say his father was reading a newspaper when he saw his son's picture and told him to turn himself in. Simmons was picked up at his home at later confessed at police headquarters.
Police say 21-year-old Hakim Porter was arrested Saturday. The student told police that on November 24th, she was kidnapped in South Beach and repeatedly raped and robbed by three men. HIV-carrier charged with 'systematic torture' of three girls - raped an 11-year-old while he was infected with AIDS An Atlanta man is facing trial on Monday for what prosecutors call the "systematic torture" of three girls.
Rodney Williams, 42, faces 19 felony counts against him, including the charge that he raped an 11-year-old while he was infected with AIDS. His 16-year-old son Ryan and 18-year-old daughter Q-Tasher (On Tasher! On Blitzen!) also face criminal charges. "He was training them to never tell, always keep this a secret," said an assistant prosecutor. "They were for his sexual pleasure." Sketch Of Suspect In Alleged Rape Of Woman, 77  Police have released a sketch of a suspect they say raped a 77-year-old woman in her home last week.
The victim's son-in-law told police he walked into the home on West Martin Luther King Drive to find the woman on the floor and the suspect escaping the home.

Abdullah Baybasin, a Turkish Kurd allegedly controlled 90 per cent of heroin imports into the UK, was granted refugee status Baybasin, 37, headed a crime family with assets in Turkey of up to £10billion.
He ran a drugs empire from his wheelchair in North London after being crippled by a gunshot wound.
It is thought that over the years 25 people were murdered in violence connected to his rackets.

"Late Term Birth Control" Father Accused Of Killing 4-Month-Old Son JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Just hours after a father brought his 4-month-old son to the hospital, that man was charged with murdering the boy. Adrian Phillip Smith, 34, brought his son to Wolfson Children's Hospital late Friday night, and the infant was not breathing. Police say doctors pulled a bloody cloth item from Adrian Smith II's throat. Homicide detectives interviewed the father and gathered evidence at his home on Earnest Street, where they believe the boy was killed, then arrested Smith.
