Nigerian migrant gynecologist sentenced to 20 years for sex crimes against patients  Dr. Charles Momah, a South King County gynecologist convicted in November of sexual crimes against four patients, was sentenced today to 20 years in prison.
King County Superior Court Judge Michael Trickey, after hearing impassioned statements from Momah's family and a close friend, as well as statements from two victims, said he was imposing a long sentence because Momah was a physician who took advantage of his patients.
Momah, 49, praticed in Burien and Federal Way until 2003 when his medical license was suspended. He was convicted of one count of second-degree rape, one count of third-degree rape and two counts of indecent liberties.
Momah still faces four counts of health-care fraud, set for trial in April. He has until 30 days after that trial is concluded to file an appeal on the sexual crimes convictions.

Man Abducted, Assaulted 11-Year-Old Girl - Police Believe Black Rape Suspect Driving White Van Fla. -- Police are hoping that a sketch and surveillance video will lead them to the man who abducted and raped an 11-year-old girl. Police said the man snatched the 11-year-old from the gas station on Saturday, drove her to a park near Opa-locka airport and sexually assaulted her. "He forced the victim to perform a sexual act. The victim was able to escape the van and was helped by a witness, a Good Samaritan, who alerted police," Amaya said. Police are looking for a black man who is 20 to 30 years old, about 6 feet tall with a chubby build and a light complexion. The man has a mustache and was last seen wearing a black cap. "You should be very afraid of a person like this," Amaya said. "This is a violent, horrid crime that was played out on a child and I urge the community to have their eyes and ears open and watch over your children." - (Newsroom) - (crime) |

| Australia: Police Recommend 10 Charges Against Indian-born American Doctor Jayant Patel SYDNEY, Australia -- Police investigating the deaths of 13 hospital patients in eastern Australia on Monday recommended charging an Indian-born American surgeon with four counts of manslaughter and six counts of grievous bodily harm. Dr. Jayant Patel should also face 16 charges of fraud, Queensland state Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson told reporters. Patel was hired by the Bundaberg Base Hospital in eastern Australia in 2003, despite having been disciplined for negligence by medical boards in two U.S. states -- Oregon and New York. A six-month inquiry into Patel's tenure at the hospital found that he may have contributed directly to the deaths of at least 13 patients who died through an "unacceptable level of care." |

Police Arrest Gontrai and Shurhonda for Rape Of Baylor Coed   Police arrested Gontrai Henderson, 25, Friday on a warrant charging sexual assault in connection with the anal rape of a Baylor University coed, which occurred on Jan. 14 at an off-campus party.
Henderson was arrested without incident. The victim of the rape told police that she had too much to drink and had passed out in the bathroom of a campus-area apartment. The victim said that when she awoke, a man was sodomizing her while a woman held her down, according to the affidavit. Coed Shurhonda Fitzgerald, 18, a Baylor freshman, has already been charged with sexual assault in connection with the rape.- (crime) |

Religion: Minister Arrested On Alleged Sex Assault Charges Denver police have arrested a church leader for allegedly sexually assaulting a child. Rev. Michael Peters, 35, was arrested earlier this week and faces a charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Peters has been a minister and a counselor in the Denver and Boulder area for a number of years, police said. Peters worked with kids and also with his father, Dr. James Peters, a pastor at New Hope Baptist Church. The charge stems from an incident on May 1, 2003, police said. Education: Vice Principal Charged With Having Sex With Student FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A high school vice principal has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a student. Elazzoa McArthur, 32, is charged with two counts each of sexual activity between a school employee and a student and taking indecent liberties with a student by a school employee. McArthur, who is vice principal of Pine Forest High School, first became involved with a now 17-year-old student when he coached basketball at Cape Fear High School and met her at a competition, authorities said. Education: Former Smyrna High teacher charged in sex with teens NASHVILLE (AP) -- A former Smyrna High School teacher who was fired from his job after being accused of sending inappropriate messages to a student was arrested. Kenneth T. Anderson, Jr. was charged with statutory rape of the student and another 15 year-old girl. He has been under investigation for two weeks, since a mother told police and school officials that he sent suggestive text messages to her 16-year-old daughter's cell phone. He is now charged with four counts of statutory rape and four counts of sexual battery by an authority figure for his relationship with the student. Authorities Arrest Man Accused of Raping a Child ZEBULON, N.C. -- A convicted sex offender who got out of prison faces more jail time. Bonnie Morris served time in 1997 for indecent liberties with a child. He was recently arrested by Wake County authorities and U.S. Marshals. This time. State officials say there wasn't enough evidence to build a case against the men. Initially, there were 14 men arrested in connection to the rape.According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, all three men are illegal immigrants. They and eight other illegal immigrants initally suspected in the alleged rape either have been or will be deported.
Renee Perez Garcia, Mario Lopez Luis and Alvaredo Perez Luis still face charges in connection with the alleged rape.
The woman who says the men raped her has moved out of the area.
Interpol has issued "an urgent global security alert" after 23 "dangerous individuals" -- including a man identified as the mastermind of the attack on the USS Cole in 2000 -- escaped from a Yemeni prison.Among the escapees was Jamal Ahmed Badawi, considered the mastermind of the USS Cole attack.
Authorities say 
First, he was fired. Now, the former director of the Bossier Juvenile Detention Center faces criminal charges. Irvin Grant is charged with malfeasance in office and failure to report child abuse. The malfeasance charge is a felony and failure to report child abuse is a misdemeanor. Grant's now free on bond. Grant and a guard were fired on Friday. Authorities say the alleged rape happened last week, but Bossier police weren't called until this week. A 15-year old has been charged in the case.
