Garner Police Seek Statutory Rape Suspect N.C. -- Garner police are looking for a 21-year-old man who they charged on Tuesday with statutory rape. Authorities say Jason McCray is wanted for a sexual relationship he had with a 14-year-old girl in both Wake and Johnston counties. McCray is also charged with statutory rape in in Johnston County. Demont Cortez Bowie pleads guilty to kidnapping 13-year-old girl and pimping her  IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Wellman man faces a possible life prison sentence after pleading guilty to an interstate kidnapping charge in the abduction and sexual exploitation of a 13-year-old girl, federal prosecutors said.
Demont Cortez Bowie, 26, entered the plea in federal court.
Bowie admitted that he met the girl in Minneapolis on March 17. He forced her to perform sex acts on several occassions in exchange for money or drugs. He drove the girl to Iowa and until mid-April the girl was used as a prostitute in Cedar Rapids and throughout northeast Iowa. Bowie forced the victim to perform oral sex on the friend in exchange for $20 and on another acquaintance in exchange for cocaine. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Jury Reaches Guilty Verdict In Niles Scott Rape Case - Fugitive Nabbed After Being Profiled On 'Oprah'  CLEVELAND -- It took jurors just four hours of deliberation before finding Niles Scott guilty in the rape and kidnapping of his niece. Scott is guilty on all charges against him, including four counts of rape and four counts of kidnapping. Scott was a fugitive from the law until he was profiled on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in October, and viewers helped track him down in Belize. Last week, jurors listened to taped phone conversations of his victim accusing him of rape. The jury started deliberating late Friday afternoon, and took a break Monday for the Martin Luther King holiday. - (Newsroom) - (crime) |
Guard Pleads Not Guilty In Black Teen's Death Fla. -- Court documents said a security guard has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old. Investigators allege that William Patrick Swofford fired the shot that killed Travares McGill on July 16, 2005. Swofford and his partner, Bryan Ansley, were working night security in an apartment complex parking lot when they approached McGill's car. Police said McGill tried to pull away, pinning a pedestrian against a van and hitting the security guards' car. The two opened fire, killing the teenager.

BNP boss 'predicted bomb attacks'   British National Party leader Nick Griffin predicted Islamic terrorists would detonate bombs in major British cities, Leeds Crown Court has heard. Mr Griffin and party activist Mark Collett are accused of using words or behaviour likely to stir up racial hatred, in speeches in West Yorkshire. Mr Griffin made his prediction more than a year before the 7 July attacks.

Griffin concentrated on allegations of paedophile drug rapes by Asian Muslims in the town during his speech. Australia: Riot row over 'PC policing' A BRAWL has broken out over suggestions the NSW Government has been too politically correct to arrest the people responsible for revenge attacks in the wake of the Cronulla riot.
NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam yesterday repeated his attack on the Iemma Government for being soft on ethnic crime and criticised police for failing to arrest people of Middle Eastern descent.
Premier Morris Iemma denied telling police to go soft on people of Middle Eastern descent and responded angrily to the comments.

Atlanta's Charismatic Black Ex-Mayor Faces Probe ATLANTA -- Former Mayor Bill Campbell, who presided over Atlanta during its most prosperous period in recent history, a span that included the 1996 Olympics, is returning to defend himself and his administration in a federal corruption trial.
Campbell is accused of accepting more than $160,000 in illegal campaign contributions, cash, junkets and home improvements in exchange for city contracts. HOUSTON -- Three people accused of operating smuggling cells were part of a ring responsible for the nation's deadliest human smuggling attempt, according to federal prosecutors.
Jury selection was to begin Wednesday in the trial of Victor Sanchez Rodriguez; his wife, Emma Sapata Rodriguez, and Rosa Sarrata Gonzalez, Sapata's half-sister. The three are charged with harboring and transporting illegal immigrants in connection with a May 2003 smuggling attempt that killed 19 illegal immigrants. If convicted, all three could face up to life in prison.
The black truck driver, Tyrone Williams, abandoned the trailer. Williams, the only defendant facing the death penalty, was convicted in March 2005 of 38 counts of transporting illegal immigrants, all non-death penalty counts.
