UK: Bangladeshi father jailed for murder of 'possessed' baby girl  A drug addict who became convinced his baby daughter was possessed by spirits has been convicted of her murder.
Sitab Ullah left his three-month-old daughter Samira with injuries and bruising from head to foot after claiming spirits were inside her. Ullah had been a pillar of his community until the death of his father, which made him turn to drugs, Bob Marshall-Andrews QC, defending, told the Old Bailey. Ullah, 26, of Maida Vale, north-west London, was found guilty of murder on Wednesday. Ullah was a community worker at North Westminster sixth-form college in Paddington, west London, where he liaised with police. He was trusted enough to be allowed to sit in on interviews as an "appropriate adult" chaperoning Bangladeshi youngsters at police stations. - (UK) |
Miami Serial Rape Suspect Reynaldo E. Rapalo Had Help Escaping, Police Say  MIAMI -- An accused serial rapist who escaped from jail by climbing through a ceiling vent and rappelling down the building using tied-together bed sheets appears to have had help, the city's police chief said Thursday. Reynaldo E. Rapalo is accused of sexually assaulting seven girls and women in
the Little Havana neighborhood in 2002 and 2003. He escaped Tuesday night from
the jail where he was awaiting a February trial that could have sent him to
prison for life. Another inmate, Idanio Bravo, also scaled down the building,
but he fell, broke his legs and was caught.

Black man arrested for shotgun murder of 61-year-old White woman  A man is charged with first-degree murder in connection with last week's death of a 61-year-old woman. Trill S. McKinney, 30 also faces charges of armed robbery, aggravated burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm
Deputies found Betty Jean Sweet dead in her home on Sunday with at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Her co-workers alerted the sheriff’s office after they couldn’t reach her by phone and no one answered her door.
Investigators say McKinney broke into Sweet’s home with the intention of robbing her, but she panicked and began to scream when he entered the house. That’s when he fired a shotgun at close range.

Reservist home for Christmas slain in N.C. - Adulterous wife and her black lover and his daughter's black lover charged with murder     Home for Christmas after nearly a year in the Middle East, Navy Reservist Paul Berkley was making up for lost time with his family. He arrived Wednesday, in time to hear his 18-year-old son, Zeke, sing the national anthem with his high school chorus. On Friday, he and 16-year-old daughter Becky ate pizza, watched movies and danced. By Sunday, the 46-year-old sailor was dead, shot once in the head during a walk in the park with his wife, Monique. She now stands charged with his slaying, along with two black men -- her alleged black teenage lover and her stepdaughter Becky's black boyfriend. Andrew Canty told his mother that he and Monique Berkley had begun a sexual relationship. He allegedly moved in with her in April, a few months after her husband shipped out. - (Tyrone N. | Merhani Teklemariam Bahabla - who is black and a native of Eritrea gets 112 years to life in prison for four rapes in Santa Rosa Speaking during an emotional hearing, two of the victims said Merhani Bahabla shattered their lives, while he said the jury convicted him because they "judged me by my color." In a wide-ranging statement, Bahabla, who is black and a native of Eritrea, said he wouldn't have committed the rapes because his mother had taught him to respect women. "I am not the first innocent person to go to the jail," he said, "so thank you, God bless you and Merry Christmas." He was convicted in November of 12 sex offenses, committed between October 2003 and January 2004, including forcible rape and forcible sodomy. He wielded a knife against three victims, authorities said. It's off to jail for the wife of Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman  Coleman's life turned upside down the night she struck a parked truck in Bexley back in October. At the time of the accident, her blood alcohol level was .271, three times the legal limit.
She would plead guilty to drunk driving and failure to control her car, but denied she had a high blood alcohol level, a crime that carries a mandatory three days in jail.

Former state rep sentenced for lying about address Former state representative Patricia Bailey is lashing out after being sentenced to probation and community service. She was convicted for lying about her home address when filling out documents to run for political office. Prosecutors asked that Bailey spend some time behind bars. But the judge said a
prison sentence was not appropriate, because bailey had no criminal history. Bailey got a pretty good deal, probation and community service, instead of jail time and $100,000 in restitution, which is what the prosecution wanted. But she is hardly grateful and apologetic. - (Negrodamus) |
