| Santa Ana man Jonathan Phong Khanh Tran to be arraigned in killing of 15-year-old Hanna Montessori SANTA ANA, Calif. A car salesman is set to be arraigned in Santa Ana today in the killing of a teenager who's a descendent of educational pioneer Maria Montessori. Jonathan Phong Khanh Tran is accused of killing 15-year-old Hanna Montessori, a runaway from Marietta, Georgia, last year. Prosecutors say the girl was working as a prostitute when Tran picked her up in his truck. Tran is accused of sexually assaulting three other women. The girl was the great-great-granddaughter of Maria Montessori, whose educational method is used in thousands of schools around the world. |

Miami serial rape suspect escapes jail
- Police say Reynaldo Elias Rapalo tied sheets, climbed from roof An inmate accused in a series of rapes that terrorized the Little Havana neighborhood escaped from jail, police said Wednesday. Reynaldo E. Rapalo, 34, ran away from Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center late Tuesday after climbing down from the roof using bed sheets tied together, police said.
Another man was caught after he broke a leg while jumping.
Rapalo is accused of raping seven victims, ages 11 to 79, in 2002 and 2003 and attempting to attack four others. Authorities say DNA evidence links him to the attacks. He was arrested in September 2003 after a massive manhunt. Rapalo was considered armed and dangerous. - (crime) - (José María) |
Evandro Doirado kidnapped a woman and her 2-year-old son and repeatedly raped the woman over two days  On Saturday night, Evandro Doirado stabbed a man in a botched drug deal, according to Framingham police, but the man was not seriously injured.
He then carjacked the 25-year-old mother and son while brandishing a 13-inch knife in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Framingham. "He didn't know her at all," a Plymouth Police Capt said. "He just grabbed her."
He first took her to the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex and allegedly raped her there in the car with her child looking on. He raped her again in Natick and forced her to withdraw money from an automated teller machine.
They then drove to Plymouth where he allegedly raped the woman as the 2-year-old cowered by the bedside, according to Cruz, and repeatedly threatened to kill the child. "This is an evil person," Cruz said. "When you do something like that with a child in the room, there's no other explanation for that." - (-88-) - (crime) |
Crime Stoppers wants help finding sex assault suspect Manuel Hernandez Manuel Hernandez, 25, is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman on September 21, 2002. Police say new evidence in the case prompted them to issue a warrant for his arrest. Police say Hernandez was one of several people who were armed with a handgun at the time of the assault. The attack happened inside a black Lincoln Navigator with after-market wheels. Hernandez is described as 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, he has black hair and brown eyes. Jogger Attacked on Bike Trail by a Hispanic male  A man who allegedly tried to rape a woman jogging on the Silver Comet Trail in Mableton, Ga., is being sought by Cobb County police.
The woman told investigators a Hispanic male carrying a knife abducted her while she was jogging along the trail, located near Cooper Lake Road, and forced her into a nearby wooded area. There, she said, he tried to rape her.
Police said the victim managed to escape her attacker, who then fled on foot toward the East-West Connector.

Reservist home for Christmas slain in N.C. - Adulterous wife and her black lover and his daughter's black lover charged with murder     Home for Christmas after nearly a year in the Middle East, Navy Reservist Paul Berkley was making up for lost time with his family. He arrived Wednesday, in time to hear his 18-year-old son, Zeke, sing the national anthem with his high school chorus. On Friday, he and 16-year-old daughter Becky ate pizza, watched movies and danced.
By Sunday, the 46-year-old sailor was dead, shot once in the head during a walk in the park with his wife, Monique. She now stands charged with his slaying, along with two black men -- her alleged black teenage lover and her stepdaughter Becky's black boyfriend. Andrew Canty told his mother that he and Monique Berkley had begun a sexual relationship. He allegedly moved in with her in April, a few months after her husband shipped out. - (Tyrone N. Lowdown Black Man Charged in Kidnapping, Rape of Six-Year-Old Boy  A 21-year-old man is behind bars tonight, charged with kidnapping and raping a six-year-old boy. It happened over the weekend. Sheriff's deputies say the boy was abducted from a mobile home park then taken to some woods. Josh Dunson is the man investigators say committed what they are calling a sickening crime. Deputies say Saturday evening Dunson kidnapped the little boy from the trailer park.The six-year-old was staying with his mom's best friend. Investigators say she lost track of him and he wondered off. Willie Simmons, who lives nearby found a little boy's pants, underwear and shoes. Federal Jury A federal jury has awarded nearly $3 million in a "reverse discrimination" suit against the Philadelphia School District brought by four white males who claim they were fired by an African-American woman who had complained there were "too many white male managers in this department." In the trial, lead plaintiffs' attorney Michael D. Homans of Flaster Greenberg in Cherry Hill, N.J., set out to prove that his clients were fired only because they were white several months after Kimberly Sangster, an African-American woman, was hired as the district's chief procurement officer. Homans said that during Sangster's first day on the job in November 2002, she asked plaintiff Robert Johnston if he was "going to have a hard time working for a black woman.". Jurors said a lawyer called them "crackers." The school district was told to pay four white men nearly $3 million After Friday's verdict, Carl E. Singley, a prominent African American lawyer who represented the school district, exchanged words with some members of the all-white jury as they rode a courthouse elevator. Manuel Angel Cervantes Accused Of Kidnapping, Assaulting Teen - another 'Angel'  Aurora and Oswego Police arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a Sunday morning incident in which a 17-year-old Oswego girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. Charges are pending against Manuel Angel Cervantes. Officials said that after Cervantes assaulted the girl in Oswego, he drove her to his Aurora apartment and again attacked her. The victim was then taken to a business in the 2300 Block of Ogden Avenue in
Aurora, where she was dropped off and able to contact police.

Attorneys defending the son of City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente against sexual assault and rape charges  Prosecutors say Ignacio De La Fuente Jr., 32, assaulted four women whom he picked up in Oakland's Fruitvale district between August 2003 and April 2005. Police said De La Fuente raped, choked and beat a 15-year-old girl in April 2005, and during their investigation of that assault, they linked him through DNA evidence to the Aug. 25, 2004, rape of a 21-year-old woman. Black Killer gets sentence reduced to life for kidnap-rape-murder of White woman - because one juror read the Bible   '95 death sentence was overturned Rhonda Maloney was kidnapped, raped and slain in 1994. The jury's finding for execution was thrown out because of the use of a Bible during deliberation. A man who kidnapped, raped and murdered a woman in 1994 was sentenced Monday to life in prison without parole. Robert Harlan was originally sentenced to death by an Adams County jury in 1995 for the murder of Rhonda Maloney, 25. But Harlan escaped execution after the Colorado Supreme Court upheld a ruling that jurors in the case improperly consulted the Bible during deliberation. "It could be said you may have avoided the death penalty by a technicality," Adams County District Judge Scott Crabtree told Harlan. On Feb. 12, 1994, Harlan kidnapped and raped Maloney, 25, for hours. She temporarily escaped when motorist Jacquie Creazzo slowed down after spotting the
two parked cars. Creazzo sped toward the Thornton Police Department, with Harlan in pursuit. Harlan fired bullets into the good Samaritan's car, hitting Creazzo in the knee, spine and face, causing her to crash. Black only sentenced to 40 days for killing of 13-year-old White girl   A Chesapeake Judge handed down a decision concerning a driver who had been convicted twice of driving on a suspended license. Gerald Haley, Jr., 22, was found guilty of the misdemeanor charge. The charge stemmed from an accident August 9, 2005. Haley was arrested after hitting 13-year-old Kasi Vaughan along Taylor Road. Vaughan was crossing the street when she was hit by the passenger side of Haley's car. She died in the accident. Haley's driving record several convictions. Those convictions include two for driving on a suspended license, as well as nine for speeding. Haley was sentenced to only 40 days and will have to pay a fine. - (Tyrone N. Butts) - (TNB) |

Low down convicted sex offender working at Nickelodeon charged molesting 14-year-old boy who visited studio BURBANK, Calif. A convicted sex offender temporarily working at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank has been charged with molesting a 14-year-old boy who visited the studio. Ezell Channel of Tarzana is charged with child molestation and attempting to show a pornographic movie to a minor. Channel is a registered sex offender who was on probation.
