Seattle elementary-school teacher sentenced for molesting little girls  Child molester and former Seattle fifth-grade teacher Laurence E. "Shayne" Hill, 55, reacts in the King County Courthouse Friday upon hearing his sentence of more than five years in prison from Judge Douglas McBroom, who said the need for punishment outweighed that of rehabilitation. Police and prosecutors said the investigation into Hill began in April when the mother of one of the victims walked into Hill's classroom at Broadview-Thomson Elementary School to deliver lunch to her then-11-year-old daughter. She saw Hill sitting extremely close to her daughter, and he had his hand on the girl's buttocks. The mother reported the incident to the principal.- (-88-) |

White woman prison counselor raped by black inmate sued, saying security lapses led to attack - settles suit for $1.65M  A prison counselor who was taken hostage by an inmate and sexually assaulted has agreed to drop her federal lawsuit against corrections officials and the Governor in exchange for a $1.65 million settlement.
Although a stipulation to end Cassandra Arnold's lawsuit has not formally been entered both sides confirmed the settlement and the amount. After attending a Less Stress group session conducted by Arnold, inmate Scott A. Miller slipped through two security doors to reach an office area in the prison, where he hid in a bathroom. Arnold later went into the bathroom and was attacked by Miller, a serial rapist serving a 699-year sentence. Miller, who had a homemade metal knife, grabbed her by the neck, threw her against a wall and then dragged her past co-workers to an office and barricaded the door. Martin said Arnold tried to reason with her attacker but Miller ultimately tied Arnold's hands, and after five hours of a standoff with prison guards, raped her, saying, "I don't have anything to lose." Arnold's ordeal ended after about seven hours, when a corrections officer, who had crawled into the ceiling of the room, shot Miller. - (NNN Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-White) |
Suspects arrested in two William and Mary coed rape investigations A suspect's been arrested and charged in the rape of a William and Mary student at her off-campus apartment. Kermit Anthony "Tony" Gray, 22, was arrested Thursday afternoon at the Newsome Park Apartments. In an email to students, College officials said Gray has confessed. He's the person of interest police sought following Tuesday morning's rape and robbery of a 22-year-old woman at the Apartments. Gray had been charged several times over the past years with peeping into windows at the same complex. Police arrested Gray on an unrelated charge and he also faces a marijuana possession charge in that city. Gray has been charged with one count each of rape, abduction, robbery and burglary with the intent to commit a robbery and rape while armed with a dangerous weapon. Police are awaiting results from tests of a 12.5" kitchen knife that was found on the ground outside the apartment complex to determine whether it was the weapon used in the crime. - (crime) - (Tyrone N. Pastor arrested on outstanding warrant while out on bail for sex charges Syracuse Police say Jaree Jones was arrested on an outstanding warrant in Connecticut. It dates back to 2000 for sexual abuse in Waterbury. Jones already faces rape and criminal sexual act charges here in Syracuse.
Authorities say Jones, a pastor of the Refuge Temple, sexually attacked a teen several times following youth group sessions after church.

Sports: Former footballer Michael Irvin Suspended From ESPN for not telling the network about his drug arrest last week Michael Irvin, who has maintained that the pipe belonged to a friend, told The Associated Press on Thursday that he won't return to the air until Dec. 11. He was arrested Friday in Plano for an outstanding warrant on an unpaid speeding ticket but was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his car.

Parents charged with baby's vodka overdose - Lethal dose was nearly six times the legal limit for adults * Now in Custody  A Florida couple accused of feeding their 3-month-old baby a lethal dose of vodka to quiet her crying surrendered to police in New Jersey Thursday.Detectives tracked down a cell phone number and persuaded them to turn themselves in, officials said.Mardala Derival and Mackenson Dantus were charged with aggravated manslaughter in the 2004 death of their daughter, Makeisha. An autopsy determined she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.47 and severe liver damage when she died.Derival, 22, and Dantus, 25, were awaiting extradition to Florida. - (White Boy) |

Sex Suspect Faces Kauai Judge An Oahu man who settled a high-profile sex abuse case against a Catholic priest is now accused of raping a teenage girl on Kauai nine years ago. Eugene Saulibio was in a courtroom Thursday morning, this time as the alleged abuser. Police began their investigation back in April. Officers arrested the 44-year-old on Oahu for allegedly raping a 14-year-old
girl during a two-month period in 1996. Police said she was a family friend on
vacation staying at his former home on Kauai. |

Prosecutors say Gonzales on Halloween night snuck into the bedroom of 
Ashraf Al-Jailani and his Swedish-American wife, Michele Swensen, are dropping efforts to avoid deportation. The government says it has held him because of possible connections with a suspected terrorist and the brother of one of the Sept. 11 airline hijackers who targeted the World Trade Center.
According to the FBI, Al-Jailani's business card as a geochemist, a scientist who studies the composition of the Earth's crust, was discovered with a suspected terrorist in New York.
The government also has alleged al-Jailani may be a danger to his 
James E. Martin is a sexual predator who went to prison four times in the 1980s for fondling young children. 
A 6-year-old boy was facing expulsion for touching a classmate's rear end, and his mother said she thinks the school district is going too far. Yolanda Kirk said she's not disputing Northwest Local School District's right to
discipline students.
"Don't get me wrong -- it's not right for any child to physically touch another child," she said. "I don't condone it."
A letter from the school district claims that her son, Blake, engaged in sexual acts, displayed excessive affection, engaged in inappropriate touching and used obscene gestures. But Kirk said her son's potential expulsion is excessive.
"He's 6 -- he just came out of kindergarten," she said.
