White woman prison counselor raped by black inmate sued, saying security lapses led to attack - settles suit for $1.65M A prison counselor who was taken hostage by an inmate and sexually assaulted has agreed to drop her federal lawsuit against corrections officials and the Governor in exchange for a $1.65 million settlement. Although a stipulation to end Cassandra Arnold's lawsuit has not formally been entered both sides confirmed the settlement and the amount. After attending a Less Stress group session conducted by Arnold, inmate Scott A. Miller slipped through two security doors to reach an office area in the prison, where he hid in a bathroom. Arnold later went into the bathroom and was attacked by Miller, a serial rapist serving a 699-year sentence. Miller, who had a homemade metal knife, grabbed her by the neck, threw her against a wall and then dragged her past co-workers to an office and barricaded the door. Martin said Arnold tried to reason with her attacker but Miller ultimately tied Arnold's hands, and after five hours of a standoff with prison guards, raped her, saying, "I don't have anything to lose." Arnold's ordeal ended after about seven hours, when a corrections officer, who had crawled into the ceiling of the room, shot Miller. - (NNN Newsroom) - (crime) - (Black-on-White) |

Child killer Lionel Tate seeks gag order on reporters * Judge Rejects Lionel Tate's Gag Order Request FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A Broward County judge cleared the way for a hearing on whether convicted killer Lionel Tate should return to prison for allegedly robbing a pizza delivery man after denying Tate's handwritten motion for a change of venue and gag order. The Judge said at a brief hearing that Tate's probation revocation hearing will begin Monday as scheduled. Lazarus said a change of venue is "not appropriate" in a probation case and that he cannot prevent news media from covering the case as Tate, 18, wanted. When Tate was 12, he killed a 6-year-old family friend and gained national infamy when he became the youngest person to that point sentenced to life in prison in modern U.S. history. |

Former choir director guilty of molesting 3 sisters In the end, it came down to his word against theirs: The once up-and-coming Philadelphia gospel singer pitted against three young girls who testified that he'd sheltered them, gained their trust - and then molested them. I t took roughly two days of deliberation, but yesterday a jury determined that the girls - sisters who were 5, 11, and 17 years old at the time of the incidents - were telling the truth. They each told the jury that Joseph had stuck his fingers into their vaginas. It convicted Otis Joseph, 29, a former choir director, on all but one of the sexual-assault charges against him. Yesterday's verdict was another blow to Joseph, who already had been convicted of raping two sixth-grade girls who had been his music students. - (reader link) - (crime) |

HOMELESS JACK ON NEEDED SPIRITUAL/RELIGIOUS REVIVAL -
by H. Millard © 2005 "Man, I've said it a thousand times before," said Homeless Jack. "Whites won't survive unless we go through a true sea-change spiritual/religious revival. "Political and social movements, if not based on spiritual or religious truths, won't save us. That's what many have tried in the past. They thought they were winning, but ultimately they failed. It was inevitable. If you don't change the spiritual and religious zeitgeist of White people so that the people's beliefs can withstand all manner of adversity and attacks and so that the people will struggle against all odds for what is right, and never give up, you'll fail. . - (H. Millard index) - (Commentary) |
