| New Zealand: Tongan protester threatens to blow himself up * "We are going to die for Tonga today, that's why we are here" Property was damaged and punches were thrown at the King of Tonga's Auckland residence yesterday where a protester threatened to blow himself up with a device that looked like a bomb. About 70 Tongans, including children, entered the grounds on the invitation of the King's representatives to discuss their concerns about a month-long public service strike in Tonga. Police keep protesters from King  However the protest turned ugly when they were refused a visit with King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and a fight broke out among a small group of protesters and staff. Police were called with two men removed to cool down and another arrested for wilful damage. Earlier, the lead protester Alan Taione had arrived at the entry of the residential grounds in a four-wheel drive vehicle draped with protest banners. He opened the boot of his 4WD to reveal a bomb-shaped metal canister with a material stuffed into its mouth like a wick. Mr Taione, an Auckland motor mechanic, said he was going to sacrifice himself for the people of Tonga unless he got an audience with the King. - (Abo) |
| Police arrest Rodrigo Gonzalez in 17-year-old murder case In the shadow of Holy Cross church, in the Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood, on a street corner 17 years ago, Ida Garcia was shot to death. She was just 18, standing with friends, when gang members trying to assassinate a rival started shooting. They missed their target, but a .22-caliber rifle shot hit Ida in the head. Police arrested four teenagers, two of whom are still doing prison time. But Rodrigo Gonzalez, the then 20-year-old who police say actually fired the fatal shot, fled the state. - (Whtie Boy) |

"Come-as-you-are" is theme for Killen Day Prince concedes that foes have been defeated  PHILADELPHIA - No special badges or outfits are required for Killen Appreciation Day. "Just bring an American flag and love for freedom in your heart," said Gerald McManus. Organizers said that disruption of the event would not be tolerated and hostile-elements would not be admitted. McManus said that he could not predict numbers attending, but that three-dozen Neshoba Countians had turned out to cheer Killen as he posted bond. News of the ceremonies has been electrifying. Californian Tyrone Butts quipped that "if gas isn't ten-dollars a gallon, I might just drive down and appreciate" Killen. Jury Selection Begins Monday In Trial Of Man Charged With 89-Year-Old's Murder  DURHAM, N.C. -- Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of a man accused of the murder of a Durham grandmother. Lois Cannady, 89, was shot to death in her home as she called 911 to report a
break-in on June 6, 2002.
Sheriff's deputies arrested and charged five males for her death.
Gregory Lee Jr., who was 18 years old at the time of Cannady's death, is the fourth of five suspects to be tried. Two other men pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and another was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Pastor and NAACP president charged with homosexual child molestation of 12/13-year-old boy relative A Union County pastor, former NAACP president and Union County School Board member faces charges of child molestation. George Watson's picture and details of the molestation charges against him are all over the front page of the Union Daily Paper, while the charges date back nearly 10 years ago, the 21-year-old victim says he wants closure now.
Watson is charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. The victim is Watson's relative. The incidents allegedly happened when the boy was 12 or 13 years old through his senior year of high school. Watson sexually assaulted the boy at several locations. The victim says Watson performed oral sex acts on him, against his will. Sexually instances allegedly happened at Watson's home, the church where he was a preacher at and Arthur State Bank.

Bisexual pedophile sex assault suspect arrested for raping at least 18 little boys and girls  Aurora police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting at least 18 children. Police said Zuri-Kye Latifbay McGhee, 31, met some of his victims by volunteering at local churches and schools. He also reportedly hosted sleepover parties. McGhee passed himself off as being between 13 and 15 years old, said police. His victims were both male and female, between the ages of 9 and 13. Temple of Faith Bishop Arrested for Lewd Act with a Seven-year-old Girl Richland County deputies have arrested a local bishop, charging him with crimes against a minor.
Sixty-one year-old Theodore Myers is charged with one count of lewd act upon a child and one count of indecent exposure. Myers is the bishop of the Temple of Faith Bible Way Church. Investigators believe that on two separate occasions Myers enticed a seven- year–old girl up to his office located in the church. On one occasion Myers exposed himself to her. Accused Black Carjacker Charged With 41 Felonies - murder of Hispanic woman   CHICAGO -- Seneca Allen, 21, of Harvey, appeared in court facing 41 felony counts,
including first-degree murder, driving under the influence, vehicular hijacking
and aggravated battery to a police officer.
Officials said that when an officer arrived, Allen was on top of another man, punching him repeatedly. When the officer tried to stop the fight, Allen fled, but suddenly turned around and attacked the officer, injuring his knee. Allen then ran toward a car occupied by a woman driver and three
male passengers and that Allen forcibly removed the driver from her seat and
fled in the car, with the driver and passengers still inside. Three squad cars pursued the hijacked car. The chase ended when the car Allen was driving ran a stoplight and collided with a vehicle driven by Jose Luis Mendoza, 31, who was giving America Aguilera, 22, a ride home from the Lansing pizzeria where she worked. Aguilera, of Blue Island, was killed in the crash. - (crime) |
Suspect In Teen's Murder Surrenders The suspect in a June murder that brought attention to possible "turf wars" between Bond Hill and Avondale youth has surrendered to police. Jonathan White, 20, turned himself in Monday, Cincinnati police said. | Palm Beach: Mayor's wife charged in domestic spat Marc Drautz told police his wife, Yasmine, punched him in the face during an argument Saturday. - (poor baby!)   Lake Worth Mayor Marc Drautz's wife spent the night in the Palm Beach County Jail Saturday after allegedly punching her husband in the face. Yasmine Drautz, 24, was arrested and charged with simple domestic battery and later released on court-ordered supervision. It was her first arrest and no drugs or alcohol was involved. Marc Drautz, a kindergarten teacher and part-time lifeguard who won election in March would only say : "It's a family matter and it's not public. My wife has had a difficult time lately but I love my wife." Drautz, 31, called saying his wife had just attacked him and he possibly had a broken nose, the report said. When officers arrived, Drautz had blood below his mouth and on his chin. He told them she has attacked him twice before, slapping him in the face and kicking and punching him, he said. Yasmine Drautz told police she and her husband were fighting and she was going to leave the house but first wanted to see their 2-year-old son, Tristan. "There are several unanswered questions, and it is hard to follow up on," Elzey said. There have been no recent reports of a severe beating, he said. "It's kind of sickening that someone would actually tape this beating and put it on the Internet," he added.
