| 12 | Suspect in rape of 12-year-old girl arrested - Ref: Hamilton Police Look For Rape Suspect  Covington police have arrested registered sex offender Cedric Alonzo Smith. Smith was arrested Tuesday night after Hamilton police issued an alert earlier in the day. Hamilton police suspect Smith of raping a 12-year-old girl.

HIV-positive man who infected 17 women sentenced to 178 years A man convicted of deliberately exposing 17 women to HIV was sentenced yesterday to 178 years in prison. Anthony Whitfield, 32, was found guilty last month on 17 counts of first-degree assault with sexual motivation, two counts of witness tampering and three counts of violating a court protection order. Whitfield reportedly was infected with HIV while serving a prison term in Oklahoma in the 1990s. Five women cited in the case have tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and a sixth has developed AIDS. Health authorities said as many as 170 people may have been exposed to the virus, including subsequent partners of women with whom he slept.

Milwaukee Sheriff's Deputy robbed of badge & locked in trunk by prostitute - sentenced for lying about incident  A Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy accused of picking up a prostitute and getting locked in the trunk of his car was sentenced.
Keith Barkster, 32, was sentenced to a year of probation, 20 days in the House of Correction, and was ordered to pay $500 to the city of Milwaukee.
He was also ordered to donate $200 to the Law Enforcement Agency trust account.

The chief executive and the top financial officer at mortgage giant Fannie Mae forced out after auditing corruption scandal  Chief Executive Officer Franklin Raines said last night that he had decided to resign because of his pledge to hold himself accountable if regulators determined the existence of accounting errors. Recent revelations from government investigators could result in Fannie Mae being forced to restate $9 billion or more in earnings over the past four years. "Only 5 shoplifting days left 'till Kwanzaa!" - Five women arrested for shoplifting at local mall  Over the past weekend in Mobile, there was a coordinated attempt to shoplift and it was caught on surveillance video. The suspects tried walking off with thousands of dollars in merchandiseFive women caught on a surveillance video went on a shopping spree Sunday. Among the stores they visited: Radio Shack, Lane Bryant, The Gap and Hot Topic. Black Teen Faces Murder Charge in Death of White Baby  Prosecutors charged Timothy L. Thomas Jr., 17, with second-degree murder in the death of Alyssa Gardner.The child died Dec. 16. It was her first birthday.Thomas was accused of shaking Gardner when she wouldn't stop crying at a mobile home park at 78th and Prospect.A doctor said the girl suffered injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, according to a court document. | 14 | Portsmouth Man Faces Rape Charges After 14-Year Old Girl Discovers She's Pregnant A Portsmouth man is facing rape charges after a 14-year old teenager discovered she was pregnant.According to police, 61-year old Eugene Miles Snipes was arrested after DNA test results determined he was the child's father.The girl's mother said that she and her 14-year old daughter discovered the pregnancy when morning sickness developed. The girl was staying with a relative - who lives with Snipes - over the summer. The teen's mother says her daughter is mentally handicapped, and she believes Snipes took advantage of her while the relative was away. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
| 14 | Internet Meeting Leads To Rape Of 14-Year-Old Boy Memphis, TN - Detectives are investigating the rape of a teenage boy this past weekend. The boy told investigators he met the man on the internet. When the man picked up the boy, the man told the victim he was an uncle of the teenager he had agreed to meet. The man then drove the boy to a secluded area where he allegedly raped him. Investigators arrested Freddie Cowser, III, who lives in Memphis. He has been charged with Statutory Rape and Solicitation of a Minor. Detectives say Cowser had names and other internet addresses in his pockets. Those internet addresses are being investigated to see whether Cowser might have had dealings with those persons. - (forum) |
Ex-Calif. City Mayor Sentenced for Bribes A former suburban mayor was sentenced Monday to nearly six years in prison for a scheme in which he and other government officials pocketed tens of thousands of dollars in bribes to steer city business to contractors. Daryl Sweeney was the second ex-mayor of Carson, a city of 88,000 in south Los Angeles County, sentenced to prison for municipal corruption in recent weeks. In imposing the sentence, federal Judge Percy Anderson said Sweeney and his conspirators on the City Council had a single goal -- greed. "I don't think this was about losing your way or taking a wrong turn. You're really nothing more than a thief -- a petty thief," Anderson said. |

Suspect In Quadruple Killings Seen Playing Basketball New Orleans Police said a man wanted in connection with the killings of four people remains close to home and has been seen playing basketball and socializing. New Orleans police are still searching for Michael "Pooney" Boykins, 33, who, along with two other men, allegedly stabbed and shot four people to death Sept. 9 during a robbery. Police said Boykins should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Crimestoppers, at (504) 822-1111, is offering up to a $2,500 reward for
information leading to his arrest and indictment. Callers do not have to give
their names or testify in court to receive the reward.

Black arrested, charged with rape of missing 5-year-old White girl  COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man has been arrested in the case of a 5-year-old girl who has been missing for more than 10 days.
Emily Rimel was last seen at about midnight Dec. 7 at her family's apartment.

Emory Carter set a church on fire eight years ago during a black race riot - on Friday he was sent to prison for murder of a White   Eight years ago, Emory Carter set fire to a church during a night of disturbances in St. Petersburg. After Carter wrote a letter of apology, church leaders forgave him and persuaded a judge to spare him from prison. Carter, now 25, was back in court Friday, this time for sentencing in the vicious killing of Mike Kelley during a robbery in St. Petersburg. Carter was not the sorry young man he was after the church fire. He was foul-mouthed and angry. He berated the victim's family, cursed at the judge and asked for the death penalty. "You shut up. F--- you," Carter yelled at Judge Brandt Downey during the sentencing. "Give me my sentence so I can get the f--- out of your ugly face." At one point, Carter spit toward Downey and called him a "filthy dog." "Shut your mouth, b----," Carter yelled at the sister of his victim..
