sobbing mother of a 2-year-old girl left brain-damaged
from severe child abuse was led from a Haverhill courthouse in shackles yesterday
after being charged with allowing her boyfriend to repeatedly beat her daughter.
Sarah Comeau, 24, cried throughout her arraignment, at which the
judge ordered her held on $1,000 cash bail. ``We have a number of witnesses who
will testify that she knew Derick Epps was violent with this child,'' The
Assistant District told the judge after suggesting Comeau be held on $10,000 bail.
Comeau was arrested on a warrant charging her with allowing serious bodily injury

teacher's aide and assistant football coach is suspended with pay after being
arrested on assault charges. Greenville police said that Kenneth Reynard Cook,
44, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Cook
allegedly placed his hand inside the front waistband of the pants and undergarments
of a 17-year-old female student at

ORLEANS -- A nurse is behind bars after police said he raped an Alzheimer's patient
at an assisted living facility. Mandeville police said Derrick Garrett,
46, raped the 82-year-old woman Monday
night during his shift. Police said some of his co-workers saw him leave a restroom
buttoning his pants. When they checked the restroom, the workers found the woman
half-dressed and complaining of abdominal pain. - (Border

Nutty professor detained by campus police for allegedly threatening class  Physics
professor Dr. Louis Houston "slammed the door and started yelling
"f-you" and different profanitites at us. Then he told us if we got
out of our seats he's gonna kill us. He went on the black board and wrote
"911 now", so we were really in fear for our lives". Houston
slapped a student then told his class he was God. "He's always acted a
little strange, he's yelled and cursed before" said threatened student

Dan Truong Accused Of Ramming Car, In Road-Rage Incident BEAVERTON,
Ore. -- A man faces numerous criminal charges for his alleged role in a road-rage
incident last week in Beaverton. Police say Nguyen Dan Truong drove through
a red onramp light cutting off the car that had the green signal. Words were exchanged
between Truong and the other driver. Truong, driving a pickup truck, allegedly
followed the PT Cruiser into a parking lot on Southwest Cascade and rammed it

Imprisoned Church Bomber Critically Ill BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. -- A former Ku Klux Klansman imprisoned for the 1963 church bombing that
killed four black girls has been moved to a hospital and is critically ill. Bobby
Frank Cherry, 74, has had heart problems and diabetes, and relatives said
his health had worsened in recent months. He was moved from Holman Prison to Atmore
Community Hospital. Cherry's wife, Myrtle, said her husband was in the intensive
care unit, and she claimed he had been mistreated at Holman. |

Crematory Operator Trial Delayed * Plea
Could End Crematory Case ATLANTA
-- A trial for a Georgia crematory operator accused of failing to burn hundreds
of corpses has been postponed while the state Supreme Court hears an appeal of
scores of criminal charges. Ray Brent Marsh had been scheduled to go on
trial this month, but it was put on hold pending the appeal. Defense attorneys
argue that dead bodies are not property subject to the state's theft laws. The
787 criminal charges against Marsh include 439 counts of theft. -

Gets Life Sentence in "anti-Semitic" Stomping Death of non-Jew ST. LOUIS -- A man who stomped another man to death in what prosecutors called an anti-Semitic attack outside a St. Louis diner was sentenced to life in prison, the maximum penalty. "This was a deliberate killing," the judge told Kevin A. Johnson, 36, of St. Louis, before sentencing him. Witnesses said Johnson, who has a tattoo of a swastika and a Confederate flag, stood on his chair with another man inside the diner on Sept. 1, 2002, yelled "white power" and gave the Nazi salute. Three witnesses said he shouted racist remarks and called Schnelle, 46, a "Jew boy" before following him outside the diner, knocking him down and stomping on his head. Family members said Schnelle was not Jewish. |

Teen Scores Winning Touchdown After Posting Bond   FORT
WORTH, Texas -- The arrest of two high school football players is causing a lot
of controversy. Sheriff's deputies arrested Lionel Bayiha and Nathan
Dawson on Friday night as the team bus arrived for the game between the schools'
football teams. The teens were arrested on assault charges stemming from a fight
after a game the week before. One man, 19-year-old
David Garcia, was reportedly injured in that

teen killer who told the parole board that he regretted letting eyewitnesses survive
was executed Wednesday for a shotgun murder during a $15 robbery. Adremy Dennis
was put to death by injection at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. His
court appeals were exhausted last week, and Gov. Bob Taft denied clemency. Dennis
was 18 when he and an accomplice tried to rob two men outside an Akron home in
1994. One of the men gave up $15. The other, Kurt
Kyle, 29, began searching his pockets, and Dennis shot him to death.
