Ga. Sheriff to Take Paid Leave  ATLANTA
-- Fulton County Sheriff Jackie Barrett will take paid leave for the rest
of her term amid criticism over jail overcrowding and an investigation into her
investment of $7.2 million of public money. Barrett, who became the nation's
first elected black woman sheriff when she won her first term in 1992, will
begin the leave Aug. 1 and stay away until Dec. 31, when her term expires, the

claims Black Police Chief's arrest was politically motivated Louisianna - A grand jury indicted the town of Clayton's only law-enforcement officer this week. Police Chief Clarence Skipper was indicted on charges of public bribery and malfeasance in office. He was arrested in March following an undercover State Police investigation. Skipper accepted cash in exchange for not writing traffic tickets and for not finishing accident reports, investigators said. Allegedly Holds Wife, Niece Hostage - raped 15-year-old niece CAMDEN,
N.J. -- A woman says her husband kidnapped her, held her hostage and sexually
attacked her. The woman's 15-year-old niece
also allegedly was taken hostage and sexually assaulted. Dorsia
Jackson Derek Wilds, broke into her sister's house with a gun.
Wilds allegedly held the two at gunpoint and made them walk to an abandoned apartment,
where for four days they were locked in a closet, sexually assaulted and beaten.

Boston: deadly brawl between white and Asian youths A South Boston teen arrested in connection with a deadly brawl between white and Asian youths that may have been sparked by a racial slur has hired an Asian attorney to defend him. Darrell Mook has agreed to represent Mark Brennick, 17. Brennick is accused of hitting a 14-year-old Asian boy with a baseball bat during a fight Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park in South Boston that claimed the life of Bang Mai, 16, of Medford. Mai, who was bludgeoned and stabbed to death, was laid to rest yesterday following a two-hour traditional Buddhist funeral service. - (Rick Dean) |

News Man Faces Sexual Battery Charges in Hampton  A
Newport News man in behind bars in Hampton facing charges of burglary and sexual
battery.Hampton police say 24-year old Jason Rashad Taylor broke into a house in the 300 block of Union Street Tuesday just after 12 noon and committed several acts of sexual battery. There was a 20 year old woman living at the residence. Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other. Taylor is currently being held in the Hampton City Jail. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Johnson Found Guilty Of Kidnapping, Castration After Fleeing From Court  DURHAM,
N.C. -- Durham police were looking for a man being tried on kidnapping and malicious
castration charges who fled from the courthouse during a break in his trial.
Robert Duran Johnson was on trial for kidnapping Walter Harris, beating Harris and shooting off Harris' penis on Easter Sunday 2003. Johnson fled the Durham courthouse. The jury found Johnson guilty in absentia. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Teen Murder Suspect Appears In Court   Monday,
a 15-year-old suspect accused of shooting a man during a robbery after the victim
stopped to ask directions appeared in court. Police arrested Twain Demario
Vaughn, 15, on Friday. He was accused of murdering Kristopher
Carlyle after Carlyle and his family got lost while driving around
south Nashville Wednesday night. When the family stopped to ask for directions
they were robbed by four males.Aspiring country musician shot, killed after car makes wrong turn A North Carolina man who moved to Nashville to follow his dreams in country music was shot dead in front of his family over $10. All of a sudden a group of young teens approached their car and Kristopher asked them for directions. “I asked them again how to get on the right road back into town. A fourth boy came up, and I saw a gun and he held it to my son's throat,” said Smith. She says all they had was a $10 on them and gave it to the gunman, but it wasn't enough. “He shot my son right here over ten dollars. Jackson police searching for three black males for home invasion and gang rape "Three black males came through the back window," said a Jackson Police spokesman. "From that point they apparently kidnapped a 15-year-old male and a 22-year-old female." The threes used the woman's gold Honda Accord to transport the kidnapping victims to an area near Medgar Evers Boulevard. "They made the male get out of the vehicle and tied him to a pole. Convicted
serial rapist shot dead after taking woman hostage Delaware
(AP) -- A convicted serial rapist took a woman prison counselor hostage for more
than six hours at a state prison before he was killed by a sharpshooter. Scott
A. Miller, 45, was believed to have a homemade knife when he took the woman
hostage in the maximum security area of the Delaware Correctional Center and negotiations
continued through late afternoon. Miller was sentenced to 699 years for a series
of rapes in which nine women were assaulted.

Convicted; Jury Says 90 Years  After
convicting Rodrico Turner for rape and other crimes, last week, the jury
recommended he serve 90 years in prison. Turner threatening to kill her if she
didn't comply with his sexual demands brandished a box cutter, slashed her hand

illegal migrant doused his girlfriend and three small children with petrol inside
a car and set them on fire as he drove, according to a US police spokesman.
All five died after the car crashed in flames. Residents reported hearing the
crash early yesterday and seeing two adults
engulfed in flames, stumbling across a road near Bonny Lake, a small
town east of Tacoma. Firefighters found the bodies of a
baby boy, 1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl in the back of the burned
car. 
"He
was a good person," she said. "He was an illegal immigrant here,
but he was a hard worker and tried to do what he had to do to make it. -

Officers Spot 21-Year-Old In Men's Section - Officers arrested Carlos Flores-Diaz
in the Sears store at Merritt Square Mall after security officers witnessed the
man apparently committing a lewd act in the men's section of the store. After
his arrest, deputies realized Flores-Diaz was an illegal alien. Flores-Diaz
is being held in the Brevard County Jail with no bond. He could face deportation.

of aiding and abetting statutory rape have been filed against a woman whose pregnant
11-year-old daughter was taken to Mexico five years ago by the father
of her child. Wanda Pevia "knew her daughter and this guy had a relationship
and allowed it." Her daughter, Dana, disappeared from her home in 1999 and
returned from Mexico last year with two children. Hector Majarro Frausto,
who lived across the street from the family, was charged with first-degree kidnapping
