South Africa: Son of UK’s High Commissioner to South Africa accused of rape   A son of former Cabinet minister Paul Boateng has been accused of rape.
Benjamin Boateng, 21, has been investigated over claims by an 18-year-old girl in Cape Town, South Africa.
He has not been arrested and strongly protests his innocence. He says the girl consented to sex.
Benjamin’s father — a friend of Prime Minister Tony Blair — has been the UK’s High Commissioner to South Africa since last year.
Mr Boateng — who became Britain’s first black minister after Labour’s 1997 election triumph — is said to be shellshocked by the girl’s claims of a double assault. - (NNN Newsroom) - (Africa) - (UK) |
Alleged Gang Rape Victim Gives Tearful Testimony  The woman who told police she was raped by five men last November took the stand on Wednesday. The alleged victim says it all started when she, her boyfriend and her neighbor went out to meet some people involving a marijuana deal. The woman says she was forced by Marquay Cox to perform sex acts repeatedly.
Earlier, the woman's neighbor who also says she was asked to perform sex acts was questioned about why she did not mention that in her written report to police. - (crime) - (NNN Newsroom) - (Black-on-White) Alleged Rape Victim Testifies In Prelim Hearing Five men were accused in the sexual crimes back in November. Davon Cox, 21, Enrico Jackson, 18, Brandon Revis, 19, Dearcus Walker, 19, and Carlos Hicks, 28, were back in court to find out if they will face trial. The suspects face two counts each of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and a count of sexual assault and conspiracy. |
Fort Dodge Rape Burn Victim Could Lose Both Arms  DES MOINES, Iowa -- The pastor of a Fort Dodge rape victim said the woman might lose both of her arms.
Fort Dodge police said 34-year-old Sessions Harper raped and burned the victim early Sunday morning. He is still at large.
His victim was taken to the burn unit at the University of Iowa hospitals. The woman's pastor said the woman is in critical but stable condition.
The pastor said she was so badly burned doctors fear they may have to amputate her right arm and part of her left. *
Man In Fort Dodge Police CustodyAuthorities said the team found Harper and two others, in addition to a stash of drugs. Police charged Tyree Jackson with being an accessory after the fact and drug charges. Police arrested Marshay King on the same charges. - (crime) |
Trial delayed for Orangeburg police Capt. James Myers'
accused killer  A defense motion to delay the murder trial of Mikal Deen Mahdi has been granted after defense lawyers said further investigation is needed in the case.
Originally scheduled to go on trial Jan. 23, Mahdi is to face charges of murder, grand larceny and second-degree burglary in the death of Orangeburg police Capt. James Myers. Investigators say that on July 18, 2004, Mahdi was at the Calhoun County property owned by Myers and his wife Amy.
Around 9:15 p.m., Amy Myers found her husband on their property, where he had been shot several times. The Columbia carjacking victim told police Mahdi was his assailant. A 21-year-old Richmond, Va. resident, Mahdi is also charged in the shooting death of a North Carolina convenience store clerk.
On July 15, 2004, 29-year-old Jason Boggs died after being shot three times at a Winston-Salem Exxon. - (NNN Newsroom)

Escaped Inmate Rodney Buckles Surrenders To Police The man who staged the second escape from a Miami-Dade jail facility in less than a month is back in custody after two days of freedom, according to Miami-Dade police. Rodney Buckles was arrested following a sighting in Miami Gardens, apparently at the home of his mother. He surrendered to police without incident at 18703 NW 10th Rd, ending his 72 hours of freedom. - (NNN Newsroom) |
Purse Snatching Suspect Curtis Farmer Caught Police say the thief grabbed a 43-year-old female victim by the arm, then pulled her purse away. The victim called police on her cell phone, and an alert was issued.
At the same time, officer Harold Caldwell saw a man running into a nearby parking lot with a purse. Caldwell stopped the man, who is identified as 40-year-old Curtis Farmer, and held him until an alert about the robbery was issued over police radio.

Low-down executive director of the West End Health Clinic sentenced for sodomizing a 14-year-old boy he was 'mentoring'  A judge lambasted the former executive director of the West End Health Clinic for violating the public's trust by sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy he was mentoring.
Judge Ted Winkler sentenced Wendell Walker, 45, of Clifton, to four years in prison on counts of sexual battery, endangering a child and gross sexual imposition. He also classified Walker a sexually oriented offender, which means he must register with the sheriff's office for the next ten years.
Walker's fall from grace stirred strong emotions in court, where his apologies were met with suspicion and disdain from the boy's mother and other family members. | After his stepdaughter's body was found in November dumped near a cliff in Washington County, John Squires said he immediately suspected cousins Ricky Gavon Gray and Ray Joseph Dandridge. Squires, 51, barricaded his house at night and lay awake, expecting Gray and Dandridge to burst through the front door. He took a month off from work to stay home and watch over his wife and three grandsons. So he wasn't surprised this weekend to hear that the cousins were arrested in connection with two home invasions in Virginia that left seven people dead -- including two children. LONDON -- Prosecutors played a videotape in court Thursday showing radical cleric Abu Hamza al Masri delivering a sermon in which he describes tactics to "bleed" the enemies of Islam.
Al-Masri faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted of inciting murder and stirring racial hatred in speeches recorded on nine video and audio tapes made for supporters.
About 25 years ago, Ron Stallworth was asked to lead the Ku Klux Klan chapter in Colorado Springs. Problem was, the outgoing Klan leader didn't know that Stallworth is black. "He asked me to take over the lead because I was a good, loyal Klansman," said Stallworth, who had been in constant phone contact with the Klan leader while leading a yearlong Colorado Springs police investigation into the Klan.
