  BELIZE CITY -- Police in Belize said Thursday that they have charged a young man with killing a 20-year-old American tourist, Julia Armstrong Minard.  Police filed murder charges against Agripo Ical, 19. Minard's bruised, partially dressed body was found in bushes near a highway. 
  
  
• Inmate stomped to death in food line at Los Angeles prison
  The attackers spent 10 to 15 minutes beating and stomping the victim's head Wednesday while other inmates looked on, officials said. The men were among 30 inmates locked in a room unsupervised to eat dinner while deputies searched nearby cells for weapons. Christian Perez, 18, and Heriberto Rodriguez, 24, were charged with murder. Perez was behind bars for investigation of murder and Rodriguez for investigation of carjacking, he said.   At least 120 illegal immigrants, most of them from Mexico, were detained, Schuylkill County Sheriff Frank McAndrew said. He said he began investigating the site and contacted federal officials after getting complaints from local tradespeople. "You've got a situation here where illegal immigrants are coming into Schuylkill County and taking (local union workers') jobs for eight bucks an hour.   VIENNA, Austria -- Right-wing British historian David Irving, who once famously said that Adolf Hitler knew nothing about the systematic slaughter of 6 million Jews, has been arrested in Austria on a warrant accusing him of denying the Holocaust. Irving, 67, was detained Nov. 11 in the southern province of Styria on a warrant issued in 1989 under Austrian laws making Holocaust denial a crime. Despite precautions taken by Irving, he was arrested by police who allegedly learned of his visit "by wiretaps or intercepting e-mails." The historian has said he does not deny that Jews were killed by the Nazis, but he challenges the number and manner of Jewish concentration camp deaths.

• Chinese Cook Convicted in Mutiny Case
  HONOLULU -- A Chinese cook was convicted Wednesday of killing the captain and first mate of a Taiwanese fishing boat on international waters.
  Shi Lei, 24, faces up to life in prison for each of three counts of violence against maritime navigation when he is sentenced Feb. 23, U.S. Attorney Edward H. Kubo Jr. said. Shi stabbed the two because he was angry about being reassigned from cook to deck hand.

The Naha District Court gave Staff Sgt. Armando Valdez, 28, a suspended prison sentence of 18 months for indecent assault, the court spokesman Yusuke Katsuta said.

Florida Amber Alert Issued for Dailys Ramos * Missing Hialeah Girl Found Safe; Alleged Abductor Kills Self
A 17-year-old girl allegedly abducted by an armed, convicted sex offender was found safe Thursday after a driver spotted them in Broward County, Fla., police said. Her alleged abductor apparently shot and killed himself. An Amber Alert had been issued after the girl disappeared Wednesday.  Robert Laird, 39, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest in his car. Laird died a short time later. Reyes said the girl jumped out of the car soon after troopers pulled the vehicle over in Coconut Creek. Laird was convicted of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim 12 to 15 years old three years ago. Those charges involved the same girl. - (Animal Control) - (crime)

  PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland said it hopes to settle all pending sex abuse claims it faces for about $42 million, according to court documents released Wednesday. The archdiocese faces 129 unresolved claims, it said in a bankruptcy reorganization plan filed Tuesday.
