  The seven parishes with the most damage and displaced people from the hurricane and flooding have 3,080 registered sex offenders and sexual predators, including 1,405 in Orleans Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police sex-offender registry. - (Tyrone N. Butts)
• Red Cross Fires Man For Not Celebrating Homosexuality
  The American Red Cross fired an employee, Michael Hartman, for expressing his disagreement with homosexuality. A mass e-mail was sent to employees reminding everyone that June was Gay and Lesbian Pride Month and employees were encouraged to "observe" the celebration.
• Officer: Inmate boasted of killing pedophile priest John Geoghan
  "I killed the child molester," Joseph Druce blurted out, according to Department of Correction Lt. Edward Hammond. The officer said Druce made the statement before Hammond had the chance to read him his Miranda rights. Geoghan, a key figure in the clergy sex abuse crisis, was serving a nine-to-10-year sentence for molesting a 10-year-old boy. He also was accused of abuse by more than 130 people in lawsuits filed against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. Druce was serving a life sentence for murder in a 1988 killing.

• KU Student Says She Was Raped In Alley by Black
  LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Police are searching for a man who raped a University of Kansas student Saturday night. The victim told police she got lost returning to her east Lawrence home and asked a man for directions. "He said that he would walk her and show her a shortcut down an alley, and once in the alley, he forced her into an open garage and forcibly raped her," said Sgt. Dan Ward.Officials described the attacker as black, standing 6 feet tall and weighing about 230 pounds.
