13 | Jackson police officer wanted in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl now in custody Jackson police officer Perry Coleman turned himself in and made his first appearance before a judge shielded from cameras. As he was brought into municipal court four Jackson police officers blocked reporters access to get video of him. Normally, cameras are given all access to where offenders are brought into the courtroom. These actions came after a statement from Chief Robert Moore indicating that Coleman would not receive any special treatment. Coleman is now officially charged with statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl, who he was mentoring through the Jackson Police Explorers Program. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
