• Court-martial records: Mexican Migrant N.C. Guard member killed Iraqi after homo sex
  RALEIGH, N.C. -- A National Guardsman who pleaded guilty to killing a 17-year-old Iraqi soldier said he shot the young man after they had consensual sex in a guard tower, a newspaper reported Saturday, citing court-martial records. Pvt. Federico Daniel Merida, 21, pleaded guilty to murder without premeditation and other charges during a court-martial in Iraq in September. Records show Merida and the Iraqi were on guard duty May 11 in a tower on the perimeter of an Army camp near Tikrit in northern Iraq. At about 10:30 p.m., Merida shot the teen 11 times with his carbine. Merida first told investigators the teen demanded money at gunpoint. Later, he said he killed the boy because he forced him to have sex. In a third interview, Merida said he got angry after the two had consensual sex.
  Merida, who was born in Veracruz, Mexico, has a wife and toddler son. He is confined at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

  A Mexican man killed his lover in a drunken, drugged fight then cooked the man's body in tomato and onion sauce and ate it over three days. Police found Gumaro de Dios Arias grilling rotting human flesh for his breakfast, including part of a heart, when they raided a shack he lived in near the Caribbean beach resort of Playa del Carmen, a police chief said. "He was preparing stews. There was a grill where he was cooking part of the heart and bits he had cut off the body. It was terrible, terrible," said local police chief Martin Estrada, who was among a dozen police who raided the shack. Arias told police the victim, a young man, arrived at his cardboard hut in a wasteland area with a mutual friend who then left the two of them drinking and taking drugs. The pair had sex and afterward a fight broke out during which he killed the man with blows to the head.

Mexican Cannibal Accused of Roasting Companion
Police in Playa de Carmen, just south of the Caribbean resort of Cancun, reported finding a suspect passed out next to the sliced-up remains of his companion, a man whose heart he had allegedly carved out and set to cook on a stove. The corpse was discovered Tuesday in a hut where the victim had been hung up to allow the blood to drain out of his body. A passer-by alerted police after he saw the body hanging from the rafters of the hut; police arrested a man who inhabited the hut, tentatively identified as Amado de Dios Arias, 26. Arias had apparently carved out the man's heart, and cut off ribs and slice of his thigh, to cook because he felt "curious" about how the flesh would taste, police reported. - (NNN Mexico)

  PHOENIX (AP) -- A man accused of rape and kidnapping has remained jailed for six months while court officials struggle to identify his language. Authorities believe Octavio Luis Perez, 23, may be faking an inability to speak Spanish. But so far, linguists have narrowed his primary language to an exotic dialect of the high villages of Guatemala and Mexico. A 17-year-old girl told police he put a pillow over her chest, held her down and raped her.
