Teen draws 50-year sentence in BSU student's slaying A teenager who instigated a robbery that ended in a Ball State University student's shooting death was sentenced to 50 years in prison. The family of victim Karl Harford, 20, said they accepted the sentence - the maximum allowed under the terms of a plea agreement - but would have preferred that Brandon Patterson serve life without the possibility of parole. "Things will never be the same again," Tom Harford, Karl's father, said after the sentencing hearing. Former Teacher Faces Sex Charges involving three girls, ages 12 to 14 A former Minneapolis school teacher has been charged for alleged sexual improprieties with three girls, ages 12 to 14. Leonard T. Alexander, 27, of Minneapolis, was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of soliciting a child to engage in sexual conduct. As a dance instructor, Alexander allegedly invited girls to his apartment for practice. A 12-year-old girl went to his apartment and Alexander allegedly told her to pull down her pants before he then had sex with the girl, prosecutors allege. Prosecutors said another girl, age 14, went to his house and Alexander had sex with her. - (Brewski) |
Alabama man extradited in rape case - Suspect in 1995 schoolgirl rapes returns here to answer charges A suspect in a series of schoolgirl rapes here was returned to Rochester from Alabama on Friday. Keith Lamar Laster, 37, said nothing as U.S. marshals, Rochester police and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies led him from a Delta Airlines flight. Laster will face several felony charges, including four counts of first-degree rape. Authorities believe he stalked Rochester bus stops in the dark, pre-winter mornings of 1995. Officials here said Laster was identified as a suspect after a sample of his DNA from an Alabama database was allegedly linked to DNA evidence from the Rochester rape scenes. |
Judge Refuses Bail For Child-killer Lionel Tate A Judge is refusing to release Lionel Tate on bond after hearing new evidence linking him to the armed robbery of a pizza deliveryman. Detectives say a series of cell phone text messages between Tate and a 16-year-old boy show them plotting a robbery. The boy is identified as Willie Caruthers. One message says, "You still want to bust that lick after school?" A detective says "lick" is a street term for an armed robbery. The 18-year-old is on probation as part of a plea agreement after an appeals court overturned his initial conviction and life sentence in the killing of a 6-year-old girl. Man Convicted In Ann Arbor Gas Station Slaying - Featured On 'America's Most Wanted' A man accused of robbing a gasoline station and then killing the clerk has been convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying. The verdict in the trial for Rason Horton, 21, of Detroit, was reached on Thursday. Horton (pictured, left) was also was convicted of armed robbery, carjacking, possession of a weapon by a felon and using a weapon to commit a felony in the death of Saleh Ahmat, 31. Horton was wanted in the shooting death of Ahmat outside a BP station at Packard and Platt roads on Sept. 3. Ahmat was chased onto a street and shot in the head while trying to flee during the early morning robbery. - (another angry white) |
Domestic Terrorism: Flight Attendant Sentenced To Five Years For Leaving Bomb Note Former American Airlines flight attendant Gay Wilson was sentenced to five years in prison for leaving a bomb note on an airplane and intentionally interfering with a flight crew. Wilson, 37, was onboard American Airlines flight 306 from Dallas to Boston in May of 2004 when she claimed she found a threatening note in the bathroom. The note said, “There is a bomb on board this flt (sic) to Boston in cargo. Live Sadaam (sic)!" The plane was diverted to Nashville and escorted down by two military fighter jets. Name, Photo of Illegal Alien Suspect Released in Rape of 9-year-old girl The nine-year-old was allegedly lured from her bicycle to a home on Sycamore Street and raped. Within the following 48 hours, the home where the alleged crime happened was vandalized and then set on fire, presumably by nearby residents seeking vigilante justice. The suspect, who many residents reported seeing the night of the alleged crime, was identified Thursday night as Alfredo Lopez Cruz. Cruz has many aliases, including Alfredo Lopez Cruiz, Mario Martinez, Richard Martinez, Richard Mario Martinez and Armando Fernandez. - Police say the suspect is undocumented in the United States but spent time in the Butler County Jail on several charges including falsification and drug abuse. - (Invasion!) |
Rape Suspect Held Without Bond A day after his capture, a man accused in a brutal rape and stabbing case made his first court appearance before a judge. A SWAT team member led 37-year-old David Goodrum into the courthouse in shackles and handcuffs. Goodrum is accused in the late Monday night attack on his neighbor at the Colony Apartments. The victim is hospitalized in critical condition. Police found Goodrum hiding out at his father's house after receiving a tip as to his whereabouts. Police have charged Goodrum with rape, aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and theft. |
Gospel Choir director at Baptist Church - Otis Joseph Convicted Of Raping Students - girls between the ages of 5 and 17 Music Teacher Convicted of Rape - A jury in Philadelphia has convicted a popular local gospel singer and music teacher of raping two young students. The jury found 28-year-old Otis Joseph guilty on all 12 counts today. Joseph was accused of having sex with two young girls he had taught. Prosecutors say he repeatedly assaulted one of the girls from when she was eleven until she was 14. Garfield Man in Custody for Rape, Kidnapping of recent migrant woman from India who speaks very little English Pittsburgh police say they've captured the suspect who kidnapped a woman in broad daylight, raped her, and then threw her out of a van in Garfield over the weekend. Police say Robert Hawkins, 42, approached the woman from behind, held a knife to her throat and took her jewelry, before dragging her into a nearby van and raping and assaulting her. Investigators had to bring in an interpreter to help interview the victim because she is from India and speaks very little English. They say she has only been in the country for about two months and has been staying with her son-in-law. |
Suspect in rape of juvenile apparently commits suicide A suspect sought by Baton Rouge police was found dead Thursday night of an apparent suicide. Police discovered George Anthony Clifton, 35, lying in a bed with a fatal wound to the head at his family’s campground. Clifton was wanted in connection with an aggravated rape involving a juvenile that occurred between December and January. He also was wanted for questioning in the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl, reported missing about 1 p.m. Tuesday, who later appeared at a relative’s home. Clifton allegedly dropped the girl off near her aunt’s house on Breckenridge Avenue, police said. |
2 Teens Arrested In Connection With Tulane Rape Two New Orleans teenagers have been accused of raping a Tulane University employee and pistol-whipping her in her campus office. Hampton Franklin, 17, and Tyrone Wilson, 18, were booked Thursday with aggravated rape. Franklin admitted to raping the woman, but he told reporters that "Wilson forced him to do it" at gunpoint. |
Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping 6-Year Old Girl Norfolk police have a 71-year old in custody after a woman says she walked in on the man sexually assaulting her young daughter. Authorities arrested George Lee Washington Jones. He has been charged with rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of indecent liberties with a child and one additional count of sexual battery. Jones is a registered violent sex offender. "The first thing he said was 'I didn't touch her,'" the mother said. "And my daughter said 'Mom, he's lying, he did touch me.'" Police on Tuesday added the two charges against Kenneth Edward Simpson of Cooper Street. Simpson was originally arrested after the alleged 10-year-old victim told an aunt, and the aunt told authorities. Twin Brothers Accused of Sex With 12-Year-Old * 22-year-old twins accused of having sex with 12-year-old girl A Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday, just days after the arrest of his twin brother, accused of the same offense: engaging in sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl. Gainesville Police detectives arrested 22-year-old Dante Davis after his brother, Sloan Davis, indicated his involvement with the girl. "He (Dante) confessed to it," said Gainesville Police Det. Jamie Rohrbaugh. "He said that he had sexual intercourse with her on two different occasions, and he said that he didn't know her age at the time, thought she may have been about 16 or 17." - (Brewski) |
Damon Sheckles gets 7 years for fathering children with 12 and 14 year old girl children A Louisville man was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing young girls. Damon Sheckles entered an Alford Plea and asked for probation. The prosecution pointed out that Sheckles fathered children whose mothers were 14 and 12 at the time. "There has to be a message sent to Mr. Sheckles that he is an adult man and he cannot solicit young girls to have sex with him," the prosecutor said. Due to his criminal history, the judge denied the request for probation, and sentenced Sheckles to seven years. Suspect Out Of Hospital, Now In Jail - Flags Lowered To Honor Fallen Officer The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Prince George's County police officer is now out of the hospital and in jail. Police have identified Robert Mark Billett, 43 as the suspect accused of shooting a police officer Tuesday. Billett has been charged with murder and various other charges. During Tuesday's shootout, Billett was shot in the arm, leg and side. Some flags in Prince George's County will be flown at half-staff for one week in honor of the police officer who was killed in Tuesday's shootout. Cpl. Theodore Morris, 22, on Monday pleaded guilty in Sussex County Superior Court to raping his infant son. His sentencing date is Aug. 12. The Georgetown police arrested Morris on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 after his girlfriend allegedly discovered a videocassette that Morris produced, in which he appeared to be having sexual intercourse with his baby son. Deputies arrested 38-year-old Freda Coleman Russell early Tuesday morning for aggravated assault and armed burglary. Woman Arrested In Slidell's First Homicide Of The Year NEW ORLEANS -- An arrest has been made in Slidell's first homicide of the year. Police on Tuesday arrested a woman and at least two men in connection with the death, which they said was the result of a fight over crack cocaine. Police said the female suspect, Theresa Hopkins, beat Tina Smith to death with an iron Friday in the bathroom. Police said two men, Alvin Sylvas and Dennis Forrest, met Hopkins at a motel after the attack and helped her clean up. Both are booked with being accessories to murder after the fact. - (White Boy) |
