Four Teen Athletes To Stand Trial in Cheerleader Rape ECORSE, Mich. -- Four high school football players accused of raping a 14-year-old cheerleader were ordered Friday to stand trial on charges of first-degree sexual assault. Wayne County District Judge Michael Ciungan made the decision following more than 2 1/2 hours of testimony from the girl. First-degree sexual assault is a felony that carries a sentence of up to life in prison. The four students, LaJuan Ewing, 17; Jeffery Jackson, 17; Lamar Toney, 17; and Justin Garrett, 16, will also be tried on one count each of aiding and abetting. The girl testified that Garrett forced her to walk to a house where Toney lived and raped her after classes at River Rouge High School on Sept. 20. "I was trying to push him away. I was telling him to stop," the girl testified. She said each of the four boys raped her over a span of about an hour. Afterward, she said, one of the boys told her: "Hurry up and get dressed. We have to go to football practice."

--A high school basketball coach is expected to plead not guilty to three sex charges at an arraignment today. Russell Otis, the 38-year-old coach of the Dominguez High School boys team, was charged Nov. 17 with felony counts of sodomy by use of force and oral copulation during an October encounter with a 17-year-old player at his Carson townhouse. The coach also faces a charge of misdemeanor child molestation stemming from a separate incident with the same player this fall.

A native of Laos, he could face deportation when he completes his prison term. The drunken driver who caused the crash that killed Minnesota Timberwolves guard Malik Sealy was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison. Souksangouane Phengsene, 44, of Minneapolis, received the sentence recommended by state guidelines. He pleaded guilty last month to criminal vehicular homicide.
