Mississippi officer was killed with his own gun: police JACKSON, Mississippi - A murder suspect who killed a veteran Mississippi police detective at police headquarters in Jackson on Thursday wrangled with the officer during questioning and shot him with his own gun before killing himself, police said on Friday. The 23-year-old suspect was being interviewed in the course of a murder investigation, according to police. "The detective, Eric Smith, was overpowered and shot with his own weapon, and the apparent shooter, Jeremy Powell, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Warren Strain, spokesman for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. |

Man Sexually Assaulted Elderly Mother (Incest, fornication) A man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting his elderly mother at her East Austin home. Thomas Lewis Haywood, 67, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first degree felony. Court documents say the 85-year-old victim had been asleep in her bedroom and woke up to her son standing over her. She told him to get out of her room and tried to push him out, but he told her that he "liked" her and sexually assaulted her. When Haywood left the room she was able to lock the door. She told investigators she wasn't able to immediately call the police because the phone was dead and there was no dial tone. She fell asleep again, but woke up to her son lying next to her. She contacted the police and when they interviewed her son he said that his girlfriend had left him and he was sad so he went into his mother's room and started touching her to be comforted. He admitted that he got "carried away," according to the affidavit. |

Hagerstown (black) Man Charged In Rape & Stabbing Hagerstown police have made an arrest in a rape and stabbing that happened on Security Road last month. Montague Sutherland is charged with first and second degree rape and assault. Police say they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds on the 900-block of Security Road on the morning of March 5th. She told police she had been raped by a black man who broke into her home. |
Columbus Man Charged With Kidnapping, Rape A Columbus man is behind bars charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of rape. The two female victims, ages 19 and 20, told Columbus Police that Shakir H. Gant, 23, got into their vehicle around 3:00 a.m. Thursday and forced them to drive around at gunpoint. The victims said Gant threatened to shoot them if they didn't cooperate. |
Man Recently Released From Prison For Rape Arrested Again For Allegedly Stealing SUV Paul Ford was charged with receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony, after he allegedly stole an SUV from Columbus. Ford, 52, was recently released from prison after being convicted of five counts of rape, one count of gross sexual imposition and one count of kidnapping. Three dark accused rapists indicted by grand jurors A convicted murderer released from prison five years ago and now accused of a 2012 rape is among those indicted recently by Colquitt County grand jurors in a calendar that was heavy with violent cases. The grand jury also indicted a man, also with a violent history, accused of an assault on an 87-year-old woman and issued a rape indictment in another sexual assault case as well. Floyd Tyrone Coates Jr., 46, is accused in a Jan. 21 rape of a woman. In another case, Willie Nard Grant, 39, was wanted at that time in connection with a sexual assault in that city. In another sexual assault case, Rodney Brushaun Frazier is accused of raping a Moultrie woman and using a pistol in sexually assaulting her two additional times. |

Black convicted of rape - and still suspected in the rape and murder of young white neighbor woman BUFFALO, N.Y - A man long suspected in the death of Amanda Wienckowski has pleaded guilty to a laundry list of disturbing charges. Antoine Garner, 26, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of third degree rape and three counts of third degree criminal sexual act. Garner admitted that between December 2008 and January 2009, he repeatedly raped and sodomized a 16-year-old girl, which resulted in the girl becoming pregnant. Though Garner has long been suspected in the death of Amanda Wienckowski, he has never been charged. Wienckowski's naked body was found upside-down in a garbage tote, her hair shorn off, in January 2009. She had been missing for five weeks previously. The tote was right across the street from Garner's house. He is the last person known to have seen her alive. |

Chesterfield County police had investigated the fires as a possible hate crime because a racial slur had been painted on the house. Police believe 41-year-old Olander D. Man charged with homo rape of 10-year-old boy - criminal transmission of HIV (AIDS) to a child DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- A Dania Beach man is charged with criminal transmission of HIV to a child that he is accused of raping, officials said. Kelley Major Cooper, 46, is being held at Broward's Main Jail. Broward Judge John "Jay" Hurley ordered a $5 million bond Wednesday for that charge against Cooper and then revoked bail. HIV is a virus that can be managed with medication but has no cure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says on its website. HIV may lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, or AIDS, which may weaken cells that fight disease. Patients may develop infections or cancer, the CDC says. Cooper is also charged with two counts of sexual battery on a child, lewd or lascivious molestation and kidnapping, a Broward Sheriff Office complaint affidavit states. |

Man charged with sexual assault after woman responds to his job ad An Arkansas man who posed as a musician was charged Tuesday with allegedly sexually assaulting a 21-year-old Illinois woman in Glendale after she responded to his Craigslist job posting for a personal assistant, police said. Garry Dwayne Boga, who also used the name “Tavion,” faces one felony count of sexual penetration by a foreign object, felony sexual battery by fraud, two felony counts of assault on his cohabitant and felony robbery, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court criminal complaint. While Boga, 27, was charged in only one incident, Glendale police detectives believe he may have other victims because they found a detailed list with names of young women who were mostly from the Midwest and may have come to Los Angeles in hopes of becoming Hollywood stars, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. |

Wilson said of the allegations against Tikee Beverly, who was ordered held on $1 million cash bail following his arraignment on 13 counts of rape, aggravated rape and kidnapping and robbery stemming from five different sexual assaults between September and February. Chicago police confirm a rape was reported this weekend on the block where the officer lived. The medical examiner confirms it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound that ended the life of 48-year-old Edgar Neal a 26-year veteran of the force. A woman says her 17-year-old daughter was at a drinking party with school friends and one of them took her to another man's house. "She told me my daughter had been raped by a police officer," the woman said. |

Ajimotokan offered a ride to a fellow Centennial College student and drove to a private carport where he forced her to perform oral sex. The next night, he offered a ride to another acquaintance and took her to a private parking lot and forced her to perform oral sex in his car. He attempted sexual intercourse, but failed. State Assemblyman Eric Stevenson Arrested On Bribery Charges Bronx Assemblyman Eric Stevenson, sold out by one of his corrupt colleagues, was charged Thursday with pocketing nearly $20,000 in bribes to boost the launch of an adult day care center. Stevenson was busted with the cooperation of Assemblyman Nelson Castro, a fellow Bronx Democrat, according to the 38-page court filing and sources familiar with the matter. Stevenson, a two-term assemblyman re-elected just five months ago, was arrested Thursday morning in the city’s latest political corruption scandal. According to the criminal complaint, Stevenson accepted one cash-stuffed envelope outside a Bronx steakhouse and a second from a cooperating witness who was once an assembly candidate — but now worked for the adult home. |

Richardson, 36, was arrested early Wednesday in Pittsburgh's West End. Ex-KSU employee charged with conspiracy to defraud state A former Kennesaw State University employee was arrested Thursday night and charged with conspiracy to defraud the state. Gerald Donaldson, former executive director of environmental health and safety at KSU, was allegedly part of a crime ring that created “shell companies” to conduct fraud of almost $1 million, including within the unit he managed, the university said in a press release. Priest's rape appeal denied A Massachusetts appellate court on Tuesday rejected the appeal of a former Albany Roman Catholic Diocese priest who was convicted of raping altar boys during trips to Berkshire County in the 1980s. Gary Mercure, 65, was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for his 2011 conviction on charges he raped two boys that he drove to Massachusetts on hiking and skiing trips. Trial set for high school basketball coach accused of sex with several female students HICKORY, NC - A former high school basketball coach has been given a trial date after he was accused of statutory rape with several female students last year. Former Hickory High School's basketball coach Shawn Johnson will be on trial on September 23, 2013. Johnson was indicted by a grand jury in with five counts of indecent liberties with a student. A month before, Johnson has been charged with statutory rape charge for an incident involving a separate student. Officers were called by the officials with Hickory Public Schools after an allegation of a sexual nature made against Johnson in May by a current student. During the investigation, police learned of other allegations between 2007 and 2009. Johnson was charged with four counts of Statutory Rape of a person under 15-years-old occurring in 2007 and 2008 along with another count of Sexual Activity with a Student by a Teacher in 2009. |

Harris went over to the woman’s home, and the two left the home together — walking toward a bus stop. Harris then struck the woman to her face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground. Harris then began to repeatedly strike the woman, causing a fractured left orbital bone and numerous bruises. Charlie Blackmore, a Marine Corps veteran was able to stop Harris from nearly kicking the woman to death, and Wisconsin’s concealed carry law made his efforts possible. |

Police say Aaron Thomas committed 17 rapes and other sexual assaults in Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The attacks happened between 1997 and 2009. Rasoul threatened teen rape victim A 20-year-old Dover man was arrested after he allegedly threatened a teenage rape victim he had a consensual sexual encounter with, city police said. Rasoul K. Hanner was originally charged with fourth-degree rape after a statutory incident in early 2013, Dover Police Department Lt. Daniel J. McKeown said. Police began an investigation into the incident in late March, police said. Mr. Hanner was also charged with harassment after violating a no-contact order by repeatedly threatening the victim, police said. |

Haamid Ade Zaid was booked into the Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, being under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest, according to the San Jose Police Department. Zaid is being held without bail in connection with the chaotic attack that rattled an Easter Sunday shopping crowd and ended with four people injured, one seriously. Jermario Tywhunn Jefferson, 36, of Shreveport, was arrested Saturday after an investigation found Jefferson engaged in a sexual act with the teen the previous day at the shelter in the 4800 block of Shed Road, a police release said. The victim was a resident at the shelter where Jefferson was employed as a shift supervisor. |
Officers stop home invasion, attempted rape in Burlington Police say they arrested a convicted sex offender after interrupting a home invasion and attempted rape in Burlington. Officers responded at 11:59 p.m. Saturday to a report of a burglary in-progress at an apartment. When they arrived, police say the officers found that the front door of the apartment had been forced open. Police say the officers heard a woman “screaming for help” inside the apartment. The officers went inside, at which point they encountered a man who was assaulting the woman. The man attempted to run away, but he was arrested without further incident. The suspect was later identified as 43-year-old Jerry Lee Johnson of Burlington. |
Sex offender accused of exposing himself for fifth time A registered sex offender exposed and played with himself Monday morning in front of the Gaston County Probation Office, according to police. A Dallas woman told police she and her teenage daughter witnessed the vulgar act from their car. Dea Donja Williams was picked up Tuesday afternoon and charged with indecent exposure. This marks Williams’ fifth arrest for the same offense. According to the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office, Williams was arrested for indecent exposure twice in 2011 and twice in 2012. |

San Antonio Police believe there may be more victims out there. According to the arrest affidavit, 26-year-old Bryan Gresham found these women on social websites, through ads they posted advertising escort services. One of the victims told police that Gresham met her at a local motel last month claiming he was as a police officer running a prostitution sting. The victim claims he told her to perform sexual acts on him and in return she wouldn't go to jail. The victim told police Gresham sexually assaulted her. |

This transpired at the trial of Moeketsi Hopolong Mokoena, 34, in the Free State High Court on Monday, reported Volksblad. Mokoena stands accused of murdering Jan van Wyk, 82, from the farm Jakkalsfontein in 2009. Court documents showed that some of his body parts were found in a pan in his farmhouse where Mokoena was busy cooking them. |
Barstow police use Taser to subdue expelled legislator Hours after his historic expulsion from the Nevada Assembly, former legislator Steven Brooks was arrested Thursday night in California. San Berardino (Calif.) County records confirm that Brooks was arrested on Interstate 15 after taking several law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase. California Highway Patrol officials say Brooks threw metal objects out of his window at police. Police had to use spike strips to stop the vehicle, after which officials surrounded the SUV. Brooks was placed in restraints and taken away on a gurney. Brooks was arrested for resisting a peace officer with force, willful harm to a police service dog, felony evading and for throwing objects from a vehicle. Brunswick city commissioner arrested in connection to fatal shooting of baby in stroller Brunswick City Commissioner James Henry Brooks Sr. has been arrested in connection to the investigation of the fatal shooting of a Brunswick toddler, Brooks (pictured), 59, turned himself into the Glynn County Detention Center. Brooks' wife drove him to jail. He was released Friday morning after posting $5,000 bond on the condition he surrender himself to the Camden County Sheriff's Office by noon Monday to answer a racketeering indictment there. Brooks was charged with willful obstruction of law enforcement and influencing a witness. Tucker also confirmed those charges are related to Antonio Santiago's murder investigation. As for the six-count racketeering indictment, it alleges Brooks was soliciting people to pay him money in return for official acts and influencing others in his role as a city commissioner, including getting people's criminal records expunged so they could get hired by the city, and getting liquor licenses. Sister of suspect in Brunswick baby murder arrested
Ga. -- The Glynn County Sheriff's Office confirms Sabrina Elkins, 19, has been arrested on a bench warrant for tampering with evidence. She is the sister of De'Marquise Elkins, 17, who is in custody for the shooting death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Sabrina Elkins was booked into the Glynn County Detention Center at 11 p.m. Wednesday. The District Attorney's Office says her case will now proceed to Superior Court. |

Mother, aunt of Georgia baby slaying suspect De’Marquise Elkins arrested for lying to police The mother and aunt of De’Marquise Elkins — the Georgia teen accused of senselessly shooting a 1-year-old baby to death in his stroller — have been arrested for allegedly lying to cops. Mom Karimah Elkins, 36, and aunt Katrina Elkins, 33, were booked Tuesday for allegedly giving false statements to authorities. Glynn County police wouldn’t detail what the women might have said, but Katrina Elkins has previously claimed her nephew was with the family on the morning of the shooting. Mom Sherry West was injured and her baby, Antonio Santiago, was killed in the shooting in Brunswick on March 21. |

The County Sheriff's Office found the bodies of Christina Powell, 35 -- Aaron Powell's estranged wife -- and Mario Masciarelli, 24, of Binghamton, dead in a home at 4185 Lisi Lane. Harder said Aaron and Christina Powell have been married for the past seven years and have been separated for approximately three months. Charlotte DJ, Brandon Blakeney, Gets 20 Years In Wife's Death A Charlotte disc jockey has been sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for the death of his wife more than a year ago. Brandon Blakeney entered an Alford plea in court in Charlotte on Thursday. An Alford plea does not admit guilty, but does acknowledge there is enough evidence for a conviction. Blakeney was sentenced to between 20 years and 25 years in prison. Prosecutors say he strangled 34-year-old Catherine Blakeney in 2011 and lived in their home with her body for several weeks. Her body was found a few days after Christmas. A prosecutor said Blakeney also used a debit card his wife had been issued to collect unemployment benefits. - (Black-on-white) |

Jury selection will begin Monday in the death penalty trial against Elijah James. James is charged for the presumed murder of his girlfriend, Danielle Brown. In the past deputies have described the pair's relationship as "on-again-off-again." Brown was last seen the evening of Friday, February 5, 2010 leaving her home with James. The following Monday, February 8, 2010, Brown's car was found at a city dump in Pavo, Georgia in Thomas County. Two (black) men charged in (white) student's murder * Two charged in home invasion murder of aspiring opera student Prosecutors say two suspects got away with $400, a few cell phones and a little bit of marijuana after killing a UMKC student and left three others wounded. Anthony J. Williams, 21, and Alonzo D. Ruff, 20, each face 10 felony charges, including second-degree murder, armed criminal action and assault. According to police, the two men entered a house in the South Plaza neighborhood about 11 p.m. last Thursday.One was holding a gun and the other wore a red mask and carried a machete. After demanding money, the victim's cell phones and taking a small amount of marijuana, police say Ruff started shooting, killing 23-year-old Aaron Markarian and injuring three others. - (Black-on-white) |
