| "Posse" of 30 black girls that attacked six White 15-year-old Catholic schoolgirls - now racial hate crime City lawyers overruled the Police Department and charged a band of black Brooklyn toughs with a hate crime for allegedly shouting, "Black power!" as they beat up a group of White girls in Marine Park. In a case that roiled racial tensions in Brooklyn — and became a rallying point on "white-supremacy" Web sites . Cops locked up five of the alleged attackers — all juveniles — but did not charge them with a bias crime. The attack took place on March 30 in Marine Park as six 15-year-old Catholic schoolgirls were shooting hoops. Police sources said six to eight black girls from Marine Park JHS marched into the middle of the white girls' three-on-three basketball game and demanded the court. Finally, a posse of 20 to 30 girls set upon the victims with kicks and punches, while shouting, "White crackers," "Black power," and, curiously, "Martin Luther King." - My daughter said, 'Ma they're going to kill us.' Black confesses to murdering White grandfather over joke made seven years ago   Philadelphia Police have arrested and charged a man with the Easter day murder of William Berkeyheiser. He was shot dead as he answered his front door. Stanford Douglas Jr., 29 claimed that Berkeyheiser made a racial joke in 1998 when the two worked together at a nursing home and that he had been thinking about killing Berkeyheiser since. Berkeyheiser's wife said her husband never would have made a joke like that because she is a minority, herself. Investigators said Douglas paid a private detective $150 to locate Berkeyheiser, who had recently retired. Suspect named in 14-year-old murder case  Fourteen-years ago, 16-year-old Kari Nunemaker disappeared and was later found dead. Prosecutor Hill announced what many who knew and loved her have waited 14-years to hear. "This case is solved," he said. The suspect is 53-year-old Fred S. Mott. Mott, who was a convicted rapist out on parole at the time of Kari’s disappearance in January 1991, had previously been considered a suspect. Police say Mott left town the day after Kari was reported missing. It took eight days until Kari's body was found. She'd been strangled. - (Brewski) |

Man Faces Three Murder ChargesOne Suspect In Custody; Two On Loose    Pa. -- A suspect in a double homicide case now faces three murder charges after it was discovered that a victim was pregnant. Maurice Jones' preliminary hearing was postponed until next week. Two more suspects -- Harold Murray and Ernest Reginald Morris -- remain at large.

Manhunt Continues For Police Officer's Killer  Ohio -- A Chillicothe police officer was shot and killed Thursday night. A manhunt is under way for the person who shot Officer Larry Cox. Police said Cox was walking from his parents' house to his house when he heard about the chase and responded. The robber then drove his car into a nearby alley, where the shooting took place. Cox was found with a gunshot wound to his neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The U.S. Marshal's Service and Chillicothe police said Diallo Bendi Hill, 31, is a person of interest in Cox's shooting death. - (aryan_barbarian) |

Alleged Rape Victim Tells Her Story To Help Others - Grain Valley Woman Says She Was Carjacked, Raped   A woman who was kidnapped at knifepoint and sexually assaulted by a convicted rapist last summer spoke out Friday about her horrific experience. Trish Whitehead was heading to her car after work when a stranger pulled up. "I just smiled (at the stranger) and tried to get into my car, and before I knew it, he was shoving me into my car with a knife to my side." ."I tried to get him just to take my purse, just take my car, then I actually felt a knife in my ribcage," Whitehead said. She was taken to three locations, where she said she was repeatedly sexually assaulted and threatened. "He told me over and over again while he had me that he could cut my throat, and repeatedly told me that he would kill me," Whitehead said. After several hours, her attacker drove her to an ATM to withdraw money and then let her go. Jerry L. Banks was charged in the attack. His trial is scheduled to start in September. |
Black garbage collector arrested in 2002 Cape Cod RAPE-murder of White woman   (CNN) -- A 33-year-old garbage collector has been arrested in the stabbing death of a single mother three years ago on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, authorities said Friday. The Barnstable County district attorney's office confirmed the arrest of Christopher McCowen in connection with the death of Christa Worthington but gave no details about pending charges. Worthington, 46, a former fashion writer for publications such as Women's Wear Daily and Elle magazine, was found stabbed to death in January 2002 in her Truro, Massachusetts, home, with her 2-year-old daughter clinging to her body. Black Held in White Marine's Slaying - Family Mourns Iraq War Veteran  ATLANTA -- Charles Anthony Key is accused in an apparent road rage shooting in which a Marine was fatally wounded. The funeral for Jack R. Snook, 24, of Cumming, was held at St. Brendan's Catholic Church. Snook was found dead of a gunshot wound to the face about 4:30 a.m. Sunday by police responding to a report of a person shot. Witnesses said Snook was a passenger in a vehicle that had stopped at the traffic light and got into an argument with a black man in a white Ford. - (Victor)

Convicted Killer Faints In Court At Sentencing - Man Convicted Of Strangling, Burning Woman To Death  A convicted killer fainted in court Tuesday as his sentence was read. Benjamin Cooper received the maximum sentence of 31 to 62 years in prison for strangling Claire Clay. After the sentence was read, there was a thud in the courtroom as the defendant fainted. "I think that Claire was able to speak. We wanted her to have the last word. That's what we accomplished today," said Emily Clay, Claire's mother. Clay was a Catholic school music teacher in Philadelphia. In the courtroom her family sobbed. Cooper became friendly with Clay while she was singing R&B. Clay's life was cut short on Sept. 8, 2003, when Cooper, 19, snapped. Cooper strangled Clay and stuffed her body into the trunk of her car. He used her cell phone and also used her credit card to buy a videogame. He then set Clay's body on fire behind a trash bin. Her body was burned beyond recognition. - (The Bobster) |

Sex offender charged in Winterbottom rape-slaying faces additional kidnapping charge   Convicted sex-offender Gerald T. Montgomery kidnapped Laura Winterbottom (google) before he beat, raped and strangled the 31-year-old Burlington woman in her car March 8, prosecutors allege. Penelope Wall said she was about to get into her sister's car when she was approached by a short, dark-skinned male who asked her if she knew where he could get some "pot." Wall said she told the man "no" and got into the car, where her sister was waiting. Winterbottom's body was found March 9 in her 2001 Ford Focus, which was parked behind an unoccupied residence. Court papers say she was repeatedly sexually assaulted, beaten with a blunt object and strangled. The boy was stabbed to death as he played in front of his grandmother's home in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood.

Reward Offered For Missing 5-Year-Old - Emily Rimel Disappeared Dec. 7  COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There is another plea from a Franklin County family to help find a missing 5-year-old girl. Emily Rimel disappeared from her Madison Township apartment in the early morning hours of Dec. 7. Dispite a widespread search effort, she has not been seen or heard from since. Police arrested Lindsey Bruce, 23, and charged him with raping the girl. There is a $12,000 reward for information that leads to Emily's whereabouts. A man arrested Friday and suspected in the deaths of three elderly women whose bodies were found stuffed in their closets has an almost 30-year history of burglaries and beatings. Police arrested Gary Sinegal, 40, on Friday and charged him with violating his parole and burglary in the attack of a woman who fought back and gave police a denoscription of the suspect. He is the lead suspect in the deaths of 82-year-old 
A fired fast-food restaurant worker in West Milwaukee has been charged with first-degree murder of two co-workers in a robbery that netted about $2,500. James Walker was fired from his job at the Arby's five days before the slayings. He allegedly promised a former co-worker $500 to help him rob the restaurant. Michael Reit, 20, was charged with being an accomplice and was expected to testify against Walker who dragged Nicole Joslyn and Alan Lowrie into the freezer and executed them.

Lawyers on both sides agree that the mental stability of an Army sergeant on trial in the fatal grenade attack of two officers in Kuwait will figure prominently in the case. Sgt. Hasan Akbar's court-martial marks the first time since the Vietnam War that a soldier has been prosecuted for the murder of another soldier during wartime. Proceedings were to begin Monday, and the trial was expected to last four weeks. Prosecutors said Akbar confessed to the March 2003 grenade attack in the opening days of the Iraq war, telling investigators he was worried that United States forces would harm fellow Muslims in the war. -
