Supreme Court Rejects Claim In (Black-on-White) Murders Of Fort Smith Natives
Kendall Rachel Rice, from left, and Kevin JonesGregory DecayThe Arkansas Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the ineffective counsel claim of a condemned man from New Orleans who killed a Fayetteville couple in 2007. Gregory Decay, now 29, was sentenced to death twice by a Washington County jury in 2008 for fatally shooting Kevin Jones and his girlfriend, Kendall Rachel Rice, both 24, in their Fayetteville apartment in April 2007. Jones and Rice were natives of Fort Smith. Decay’s confession and recorded phone calls Decay made to his family while in jail corroborated physical evidence that incriminated Decay. Jones was a 2001 Southside graduate who moved to Fayetteville to be closer to his parents. Rice had just moved to Fayetteville, and most recently had worked at the Electric Cowboy in Fort Smith. She attended Greenwood schools as well as Southside. Decay was an evacuee from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He came to northwest Arkansas in search of a better life, according to 2008 trial coverage. Jesse Westeen, who drove Decay to the couple’s apartment, was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of being an accomplice to first-degree murder. He was given 25 years on each count, to run consecutively. - (Black-on-white)

Black career criminal gets life for 3 killings in 1980s
Samuel LittleAudrey NelsonLOS ANGELES: As Audrey Nelson clawed for her life while being beaten and strangled 25 years ago, she grasped something that finally brought justice for her family Thursday and helped send a serial killer to prison. DNA found under Nelson's fingernails eventually led to Samuel Little, who was sentenced to three consecutive terms of life in prison for the murder of Nelson and two other women during the crack cocaine scourge, when several serial killers preyed on drug users and prostitutes in South Los Angeles. Over the years, Little built a lengthy rap sheet across the country and is also being eyed in dozens of other killings nationwide. Sherri Ann Nelson said after sentencing that she took some comfort knowing that her sister, who had survived horrific burns in a New York City apartment fire years before her death, had grabbed a key piece of evidence during her final struggle. Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman said Little is likely responsible for at least 40 killings nationwide since 1980. - (Black-on-white)

Illegal alien gets 8-year prison sentence in death of Phoenix police officer
Jesus Cabrera MolinaDaryl RaetzPHOENIX - A man charged in the hit-and-run death of a Phoenix police officer has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Maricopa County prosecutors say 25-year-old Jesus Cabrera Molina also was sentenced Friday to seven years of probation. He pleaded no contest to charges of negligent homicide and hit-and-run with death or injury. Molina originally was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal collision. Police say 29-year-old Officer Daryl Raetz was conducting a DUI stop May 19 in west Phoenix when another vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Raetz later died at a hospital. Investigators say they matched pieces of the vehicle from the scene with parts missing from Molina's SUV. Molina told police he was drinking and doing cocaine hours the accident. Raetz's family asked the court for the harshest penalty available. After hours of testimony, the judge agreed and handed down the maximum sentence of 8 years in prison. It was incredibly emotional in the courtroom as family and friends made public statements about Officer Raetz. He was an Iraq War veteran and had been with the Phoenix police since 2007. Raetz is survived by his wife and a 7-year-old daughter. Raetz's wife, Stephanie, spoke after the sentencing. "It also helps me to know I looked him in the eyes and told him how I felt and that's something that he has to live with for the rest of his life and he has to life with the fact that he killed my husband, her son, his brother.. for the rest of his life... I don't believe he is remorseful at all... He still has yet to admit that he did anything wrong and is guilty, so I don't feel like he has any remorse whatsoever." The judge said Cabrera-Molina's probation after his prison time could potentially be reduced to just 3.5 years. Cabrera-Molina is an undocumented immigrant and the judge said he will go through the deportation process following his time served.  - (Invasion!)

Black found guilty of murder of (White) Myrtle Beach Police officer
Luzenski Cottrell Joe McGarryHORRY COUNTY, SC - Luzenski Cottrell was found guilty Wednesday of the murder of Myrtle Beach Police Officer Joe McGarry, and could now face the death penalty. After several hours of deliberation, a jury returned the guilty verdict Wednesday afternoon, after a three-day retrial for the 2002 murder. After two days of testimony from witnesses, the defense and prosecution gave their closing arguments. The state resumed their closing arguments saying that Cottrell had malice aforethought because he walks away from Officer McGarry and his own I.D. card, and then "empties eight rounds across his Honda. Well, nine rounds, because one round is in Officer McGarry's face," stated prosecutor Scott Hixson. Cottrell unloaded one full magazine at Officer McGarry, killing him, Hixson said, and two eyewitnesses confirmed that Cottrell fired the first shot at Officer McGarry's face. - (Black-on-white)

Ferguson-like attack in Utah escapes media notice; race bias seen
black copDillon TaylorOn the surface, the cases appear nearly identical: Michael Brown and Dillon Taylor, two young, unarmed men with sketchy criminal pasts shot to death by police officers two days apart. But while the world knows of the highly publicized situation involving 18-year-old Mr. Brown, whose Aug. 9 death in Ferguson, Missouri touched off violence, protests and an angry national debate, most people outside Utah have never heard of 20-year-old Mr. Taylor. Critics say there’s a reason for the discrepancy in media coverage: race. Mr. Brown was black and the officer who shot him was white. Mr. Taylor wasn’t black — he’s been described as white and Hispanic — and the officer who shot him Aug. 11 outside a 7-Eleven in South Salt Lake wasn’t white.

THE teen’s passport was cancelled a week ago after he made plans to fly to Syria. HIS rage may have been further fuelled by raids on his “Muslim brothers” in Sydney and a romance with a woman whom he converted to Islam that failed in recent weeks.
