Fatal nightclub shooting started as fight between black felon and his white girlfriend BERKELEY COUNTY, SC - The shooting that led to the death of April Infinger began as a fight between a boyfriend and his girlfriend, authorities say. According to a spokesperson with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Shearon Bennett was fighting with his girlfriend, April Cartin, when he was asked to leave the Moonshine Saloon on Meyers Road. Affidavits show that, as Bennett was in the parking lot of the nightclub, he fired into the building. That gunshot hit and killed 32-year-old April Infinger. Infinger was at the nightclub celebrating a friend's birthday and was getting ready to leave right before Bennett fired a gun. An incident report shows that Berkeley County Deputies attempted to chase Bennett as he was leaving the scene. After a warrant was announced for his arrest, Bennett was arrested and charged with murder Monday night. This is not Bennett's first time behind bars. According to a background check provided by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Bennett first started having trouble back in 1998, when he was charged with assault and battery. His rap sheet shows that Bennett has had a violent history, facing charges of domestic violence, resisting arrest and possessing a sawed off shotgun. Bennett was a felon, which makes it illegal for him to own a gun. Cartin and Darrell Bennett were also arrested in this incident. Infinger's funeral is set for Thursday. - (Black-on-white) |

Federal death penalty trial delayed It will now be at least mid-March before a man charged with killing two Bessemer bank tellers and wounding two others during a robbery in 2007 could face a federal judge and jury. Eva Loveland Hudson and Sheila McWaine Prevo were killed at the Wachovia Bank branch in Bessemer. Two other bank tellers, Anita Siler Gordon and Latoya Shaniece Freeman were wounded. William Merriweather's trial has been so long in coming because of issues concerning his competency to stand trial and his mental state when the robbery was committed. If Merriweather is convicted, federal prosecutors expect to ask for the death penalty. In February, 2013, federal judge David Proctor issued an order stating Merriweather was competent. Once trial does begin, it is expected to take up to two months to try. |

Musician’s relatives weep at slay trial The family of a slain Idaho man who came to the Big Apple chasing dreams of being a rock star wiped away tears as Brooklyn prosecutors opened their case against his alleged killer. “I want to see justice. I don’t care whether he robbed him or what the situation was, but my son didn’t deserve to die,” Beverly Thibodeau said of her son, Troy Young. Young, 29, was shot dead in his apartment in 2009. Prosecutors say Tyshawn Augustus, 27, killed Young in a sex-for-drugs hookup that devolved into a robbery. It all ended, prosecutors said, with Young dead and the convicted drug dealer making off with his guitar. “They were planning to meet for the purpose of engaging in sex for drugs,” Assistant DA James Leeper said, adding that prior to the shooting, the two men had chatted over the phone about the exchange. “The actual encounter turned out very differently. It turned into a fatal encounter,” Leeper said. |

Court reverses youth pastor's 225-year sentence for homosexually raping young boys - only gets 50 years Tennessee's Court of Criminal Appeals has reversed a 225-year sentence for a former youth pastor convicted of raping three boys as a juvenile. In an opinion filed on Tuesday, the court ordered that Tavaria Merritt be resentenced to 50 years in prison. Merritt pleaded guilty to raping the boys, ages 10 and 11, while he was serving as a youth pastor at their Lebanon church in 2009. He was 17 years old when he committed the crimes. On Tuesday, the appeals court ruled that the original sentence was excessive. The court found the trial court judge erred by substituting his own experience for the evidence in the record when determining the damage suffered by the victims. One of the three appeals judges dissented, saying a 75-year sentence was more appropriate. |

Mandela's passing and the looming threat of a race war against South Africa's whites. |
The horror started just before midnight on Wednesday this week. After listening to the latest television news about the health of Nelson Mandela, a South African family living not far from the former President’s hospital unit turned in for the night. But Roelof and Laura du Plessis, a married couple with four children who live on a heavily fortified farm outside Pretoria, did not have a peaceful night’s rest. In fact they were about to become the latest victims of what white pressure groups in this troubled nation say is nothing less than a savage war against them. Hearing noises outside their home, Mr du Plessis, 46, got out of bed and ran outside. To his horror, he found his 19-year-old son being held with a gun to his head by a gang of five armed black attackers. Father and son were ordered to lie on the ground. The invaders did not ask for money or the keys to the expensive vehicles in the drive. They were there only to terrorise and kill. Hearing voices outside, Laura, 44, came out of her bedroom to investigate — and her torch illuminated an awful scene as the gang pointed guns at her husband. Her son managed to get up and sprint off into the darkness when the men were confused by the flashlight. But Du Plessis was not so lucky. The intruders opened fire at once, shooting him six times through the throat, lungs and abdomen. As he writhed on the ground in agony, the men ran off into the night leaving empty bullet cartridges littering the yard. In the darkness, Laura attempted heart massage on her husband, who could still talk despite his appalling injuries, but to no avail. - (Black-on-white) | ||
Last month alone there were 25 murders of white landowners, and more than 100 attacks, while Afrikaner protest groups claim that more than 4,000 have been killed since Mandela came to power — twice as many as the number of policemen who have died. It is not just the death toll, but the extreme violence that is often brought to bear, that causes the greatest fear in the white community. Documented cases of farm killings make for gruesome reading, with children murdered along with their parents, one family suffocated with plastic bags and countless brutal rapes of elderly women and young children. These horrors have prompted Genocide Watch — a respected American organisation which monitors violence around the world — to claim that the murders of ‘Afrikaner farmers and other whites is organised by racist communists determined to drive whites out of South Africa, nationalise farms and mines, and bring on all the horrors of a communist state’. ‘You don’t attack farms and rape 80-year-old women with broken bottles and kill their husbands for a mobile phone. People say it’s not genocide — but it is.’ |
