(Black) Man guilty of beating (White) man to death with a microwave
Justin LittleJohnRandy Lee DialThe answer to the Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Steve Godfrey's question was "no." No, you cannot bludgeon someone to death with a microwave oven and get away with murder. Godfrey asked the Allen Superior Court jury that question regarding 29-year-old Justin Littlejohn. It took the jury just over 20 minutes to decide, convicting Littlejohn in the December killing of 46-year-old Randy Dial, a man with mental health issues living in a local motel. Prior to asking the jury that question, Godfrey held up the alleged murder weapon, a 15 1/2-pound hotel room microwave. The door fell all the way off sometime during the trial and he held that in one hand, the blood-smeared front facing the jury. He asked the jury another question. "Who wants me to drop this on your head," he said, letting it fall to the floor from a height about a couple of feet. "That thing is heavy," he said. "That thing is an instrument of death."
One of the few witnesses who cooperated with police and prosecutors throughout the investigation was 35-year-old Milissa Webb-Lippert. She testified Wednesday about how Dial had been smoking Spice with the group of people inside his motel room, and the drug made him obnoxious. - (Black-on-white)

(Black) Man Who Abducted Carlesha Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison
Delvin BarnesA man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping a Philadelphia woman off the street and holding her hostage for nearly three days learned his fate Thursday afternoon. Delvin Barnes, 38, was sentenced to 35 years in prison. His sentencing comes months after he pleaded guilty to abducting Carlesha Freeland-Gaither. "It was an act of robbery in the beginning, and it turned into other things," Barnes told the court last year. Barnes, who had earlier confessed, confirmed he abducted the 22-year-old nursing aide in hopes of getting money from her to travel south to Virginia to see his daughter there before facing charges for an earlier attack. The violent November 2, 2014 attack, which was captured on surveillance video, shows Barnes grabbing Freeland-Gaither moments after she stepped off a bus and throwing her in a car parked along W Coulter Street in the city's Germantown neighborhood. Once in the car, the young woman struck Barnes with a hammer, which led him to threaten to kill her if she didn't stop, said prosecutors. Investigators tracked Barnes and captured him in Maryland three days later. He told detectives that he selected his abduction victim at random.Barnes, who authorities have described as a "vicious predator," was charged federally a day after his arrest. As part of the plea deal, he also admitted to raping and trying to kill a Virginia teen in early October 2014. Investigators said Barnes hit her with a shovel and took her to a mobile home where he doused her in bleach and gasoline before she escaped.

Patterson, who is openly gay, was left permanently blind in the left eye from the beat-down in Williamsburg, allegedly by the group of Hasidic patrolmen. Five were ultimately arrested — but Patterson says in his suit that the investigation was bungled and prematurely closed after Shomrim members made calls to the 90th Precinct.

I was fired because I’m white: TV anchorwoman
Wendy BellA Pittsburgh anchorwoman, who was fired after comments in a Facebook post about a shooting were deemed racially insensitive, filed a lawsuit against her former employer Monday saying the television station let her go because she is white. Wendy Bell said in her federal lawsuit against WTAE-TV that the station fired her on March 30 “because of her race,” violating her civil rights. “Had Ms. Bell written the same comments about white criminal suspects or had her race not have been white, Defendant would not have fired her, much less disciplined her,” the lawsuit reads.
“Ms. Bell’s posting of concern for the African-American community stung by mass shooting was clearly and obviously not intended to be racially offensive.” Bell is seeking back pay, punitive damages and her old job.
She commented on the March 9 shooting of five black people in the poor Pittsburgh suburb of Wilkinsburg. “You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts,” Bell wrote March 21. “They are young black men, likely in their teens or in their early 20s. They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before. They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested.” In the same post, she also praised a black restaurant worker in a way some readers felt was condescending. No arrests have been made in the case.

Herman Jared PrestonAmanda PrestonMANSFIELD - Herman Jared Preston, 39, has been charged with murder in the Sunday death of his wife. According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit press release, the charge stems from an alleged altercation between Preston and his wife, Amanda Preston, 36, at their residence at 383 Apple Lane in Madison Township Sunday morning. He was arraigned today at 10:30 a.m. in Mansfield Municipal Court, with a $500,000 cash bond set. Preston is currently incarcerated at the Richland County Sheriff’s Jail. Amanda Preston, 36, was found unresponsive in her garage after her husband called for a rescue squad at 9:35 a.m. Sunday. The county coroner pronounced her dead at 10:16 a.m. Her husband told a 911 dispatcher she had been drinking the previous night, became angry with him and cut him on the arm with a knife. He said he locked her in the garage. During the two-minute 911 call, Jared Preston asks for the dispatcher to "please hurry" sending help to the home but never specifies why help was needed. - (Black-on-white)
