Black Garden Grove man gets death for execution-style slaying of two White people so he could steal a car SANTA ANA — A Garden Grove man was sentenced to death Friday for the murders of a Stanton sales associate and his secretary. Hilbert Pineil Thomas, 43, was found guilty in February of two felony counts of special circumstances murder for multiple murders, murder during the commission of robbery, and murder during the commission of burglary. Thomas entered Golden Sun Homes on Beach Boulevard and shot Matthew Scott Francis and Elizabeth Ann Palmer execution-style in the head. Thomas then fled the scene in Palmer’s Lexus sedan. After months of searching for Palmer’s car, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department located it on Oct. 24, 2009 at the El Dorado Inn on Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim. “In an unrelated case, Thomas was served with a protective order by OCSD on Oct. 13, 2009, barring him from having contact with his ex-wife after having set her car on fire in Los Angeles County. As a term of the protective order, Thomas was ordered to turn over all of his firearms to law enforcement.” A few days later, Thomas turned over a firearm to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to comply with the protective order. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department then determined that Thomas had been driving Palmer’s car and begin investigating him in the double murder. Detectives learned he had recently surrendered a gun to the LACSD and that weapon was later determined to be the same firearm used in the murders. - (Black-on-white) |

(Feral Black) Teen Violence: Racial assaults a national problem CINCINNATI -- Teen mobs at city events is not a Cincinnati thing, and it's been going on for years. Evidence of teen violence goes back to the Wisconsin State Fair in 2011, Philly, Chicago and spring 2014 in Louisville. They all have in common the attacks are by black, teenaged boys and girls. And most of the victims are white. The race factor is not something officials like to talk about. One UC criminology professor says that silence could be deadly. To some who called 911, the race factor was obvious. 11 victims filed reports saying they were kicked, punched or stomped by a group of black teenagers or young adults, boys and girls. Ten of the victims were white, one was Asian. Two reported racial slurs. Noelle Findlay was so certain the assault was racially motivated; the police report says hate crime. At 12th and Clay, Noelle says about 15 teenagers stepped in front of the car her husband was driving, "Everyone swarmed the car; I was like, 'Go, go, go, get us out of here.'" Noelle's husband, Chad Findley, told Local 12 News, "I had my window down four or five inches, he punched me in the left side of the face, someone else was on my wife's side." He said, "They were laughing the whole time having a great time" Noelle Findley used to live in Over-The-Rhine. Her job was about helping mostly young black men find careers. She filed the police report as a hate crime because she believes there was no other motive. "I feel like it needs to be addressed, people need to speak out say something not sweep it under the rug," Noelle said. Dr. John Wright, a criminal justice professor at UC, said, "I think it is racist behavior, racist behavior when you target a group based on their race, sexual orientation, it's the very nature of a hate crime." - (Black-on-white) - (Hatecrimes) |

White disabled veteran mugging victim in a wheelchair describes attack: 'They left me for dead..laughing as they ran away' A disabled Vietnam veteran returning home from a meeting at a downtown Riverhead church Sunday night says he was beaten and robbed by "at least" four men near the railroad tracks. Gene Lyons, 61, had left Riverhead United Methodist Church and was riding his motorized scooter about 10:30 p.m. when, he says, he was jumped from behind, thrown to the ground and pummeled with "sticks or pipes" by a group of young men, who stole $84 in cash and prenoscription medications. "They left me for dead in the road, laughing as they ran away down the tracks," On Monday morning, he went to Peconic Bay Medical Center's ER, where he was treated for injuries to his head, torso, right arm and both legs. ER staff urged him to report the incident to police, which he did after he got home from the hospital. "They grabbed me from behind, pulled me off my scooter and threw me to the ground and started wailing on me," Lyons said yesterday, grimacing in pain as he spoke. He said he tried his best to protect his head and face with his arms while they hit him with sticks or pipes. He couldn't tell which, he said. It was dark and he couldn't really see his attackers. He counted four males, all of them in their teens or early 20s. They were all dark-skinned, he said. One had "a lot of hair, like an afro but messy," he said. That was all he saw. "It was terrifying," he said. "I was helpless." - (Black-on-white) |

Black Bay City teen gets up to 10 years in prison for bludgeoning White man in near-homicide case BAY CITY, MI — A Bay City teenager is going to spend up to a decade in prison for bludgeoning a man with a mallet, an incident that a judge and assistant prosecutor said nearly proved fatal. Bay County Chief Circuit Judge Kenneth W. Schmidt on Monday, June 9, sentenced 17-year-old Terrence L. Conklin to 20 months to 10 years in prison on a charge of assault with intent to cause harm less than murder. Conklin pleaded no contest to the charge in April. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for the purposes of sentencing Schmidt also ordered Conklin to pay a total of $34,455 in fines, costs and restitution and gave him credit for 15 days served. The sentence stems from Conklin on May 13, 2013, striking 28-year-old Ryan W. Zwiefka in the head with a mallet in Baytown Family Neighborhood on Bay City's East Side. Zwiefka suffered severe injuries as a result, including a depressed skull fracture, a subarachnoid bleed, an orbital fracture and multiple other facial fractures. - (Black-on-white) |

White woman sentenced for bringing little girls to prison to be molested by black convicted killer A woman has been sentenced to a minimum of 3 1/2 years for taking two young girls to State Correctional Institution at Retreat to be molested by a convicted killer. Rebecca Ann Butler, 42, of Danville, was convicted in February of two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy to allow indecent assault of a child. Luzerne County Judge Michael Vough sentenced Butler to 3 1/2 years to 10 years in state prison. At trial, prosecutors claimed the Danville woman brought the children to the Newport Township prison numerous times for several years, starting when they were 4 and 7 years old, to visit convicted murderer Andre VanCliff, 47, who is serving a life sentence in state prison for a Philadelphia killing. Prosecutors say the two became pen pals after VanCliff saw Butler's name in a newspaper story and wrote her a letter. Butler responded, continued communications with him and began visiting VanCliff with the girls. A search of VanCliff’s cell turned up three photos of him groping the girls during one of his visits with Butler and the girls in a prison visiting room. |

Black suspect arrested in brutal beating, rape of White woman in White Center SEATTLE — A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Oklahoma for the brutal beating and rape of a 58-year-old woman in the White Center area in March. The King County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges of first-degree rape and first-degree assault against Christopher Anthony Brown. It said he already has felony convictions in Oklahoma for first-degree burglary, aggravated assault and better on an Office of Juvenile Affairs employee and second-degree burglary. DNA evidence collected at the scene of the crime led police to the suspect, who apparently had been visiting King County from Oklahoma when the assault and rape were committed. Brown was visiting Seattle between January and mid-April and was staying two blocks from where the rape occurred. He first propositioned the victim and asked her if she would have sex with him for $40. She tried to walk away, but detectives say he grabbed her around the neck from behind, choked her until she was almost unconscious, lifted her off her feet and dragged her into a dark, secluded lot. He allegedly told the victim not to make any sounds or scream he would “kill her” and “shoot her.” She told investigators he ordered her to call him “Antoine” or “Anton.” - (Black-on-white) |
