Why One (white) Mother Gave Back Her (black Haitian) Adopted Son "Having an instant multicultural family was magical," Conner says, "for about two weeks." Within two months, J started pinching his siblings, and Conner was not only ashamed, but also afraid. "When he hurt them, it provoked an anger in me I didn't know I had," she says. "I worried I'd lose it and spank him." She broke down in front of her husband, who worked all day and hadn't witnessed the worst of J's behavior. Matt tried to reassure her that it was just a rough transition and started spending more one-on-one time with J after work. But things didn't get any better, and by early spring, J had escalated from pinching his siblings to hitting them. J went into a wild, screaming tantrum, unintentionally hitting Conner's nose with the back of his head: "I was bleeding heavily, sitting on the rug, crying. My two little ones were hiding behind a chair, crying. And it hit me: This is a domestic violence situation; if their dad had done this, I would take our children somewhere safe." |

NJ man out of priesthood after court order broken A New Jersey man has been officially removed from the priesthood after admitting he violated a court order against unsupervised contact with minors. Fifty-three-year-old Michael Fugee had agreed in November to seek laicization from the Roman Catholic Church to resolve charges by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. The Archdiocese of Newark tells The Star-Ledger on Monday that the Vatican recently completed the process of removing Fugee from the priesthood. Prosecutors said Fugee traveled with a Colts Neck church group and heard confession despite a ban tied to an earlier case. In that case, a jury convicted Fugee of aggravated criminal assault involving a teenager. The conviction was thrown out after courts revised jury instructions tied to the case and prosecutors agreed to the restrictions rather than retry him. |

Attacked in her apartment by two blacks - White Denver Woman recounts terrifying ordeal Denver Police have issued a crime alert after two separate attacks just blocks apart within a week. According to the alert, the first crime happened around 8 p.m. on March 6. The woman, who didn't want to be identified, said she walked out of her apartment and saw two black men -- one had a knife -- at the bottom of the stairwell. "We made eye contact and they rushed up. By the time I got to the door, one of them already had their foot in the entrance door," the victim said. The victim said she dialed 911 as she fought to close her door. She knew she wasn't just fighting for her life, she was fighting for her unborn baby's too. "We were forcing the entrance door back and forth for a good ten seconds. They kept pushing the door back so I knew I wasn't going to hold it, so that's why I ran to the restroom," the victim said. The restroom was the only room in the apartment with a locking door. The woman said the men continued to bang on the door, trying to break it down. The door frame now has deep marks where they tried to pry the lock with their knife. "I could just hear them laughing. I just dropped the phone and I crawled up in a ball and I just was waiting. I was just freaking out, I was just screaming. All I could hear is banging on the door," she said. Denver Police said the second attack happened just six days later around 6 p.m., in the same area. In that incident, police said a black man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt kicked in the front door to an apartment. The male resident scared the suspect off. Another black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt was seen loitering nearby. - (Black-on-white) |
