Prosecutors say (black) Missouri mom asked relatives to kill witnesses in son’s murder trial
Tyrell DavidsonLatasha MopkinsFredrick MopkinsCortez McClintonTravon KnightenST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has filed charges against five people in connection with a conspiracy to kill key witnesses for a woman’s son on trial for murder. A St. Louis teen is accused of murder, and his mother is accused having two witnesses killed, to keep her son out of jail. This started with the murder of a 16-year-old almost three years ago. Police arrested a suspect, but prosecutors dropped the charges last year. "We had a mom who wanted to make sure her son did not go to jail, wasn't found guilty of his murder charges. So, she started this plan. That's what set it off. She used relatives and other people that she knew to make sure that they were quieted." said Assistant Circuit Attorney Beth Orwick. In September 2013, 16-year old Chauncey Brown was gunned down near Club 187 in north St. Louis. Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department believed Brown, a student at Sumner High School, was killed over a long-standing feud. During the course of their investigation, detectives learned Brown was outside the club—which was hosting a teen party—with a friend, identified as James Moore. A white Dodge Charger chased the two teens into a nearby alley and several shots were fired from the vehicle. Brown’s body was found the next day.
Police arrested Tyrell Davidson in connection with the murder. Several eyewitnesses had given statements to police. In November 2013, Davidson was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and shooting from a motor vehicle. He was jailed pending a trial. Less than a month after Brown’s murder, James Moore was gunned down in Barrett Brothers Park. Moore was waiting at the bus stop with his brother on the morning of October 22, 2013 when a silver Charger pulled up and the driver pointed a handgun at the two siblings. Moore and his brother went running through the park, but the driver only chased after James. James Moore was shot several times and collapsed in died in a baseball field in the park.
In April 2014, another witness, identified as Noah Barnes, was killed. Prosecutors and law enforcement said Barnes was inside the Dodge Charger with Davidson when he killed Chauncey Brown. Barnes’ body was found lying in the street in the 1900 block of Clara Avenue on April 22. He’d been shot in the head, torso, and extremities. Other witnesses in the case were no longer willing to testify in court against Davidson. Prosecutors eventually had to drop the charges and Davidson was released on October 26, 2015.
According to prosecutors, further investigation revealed
Tyrell Davidson’s mother, Latasha Mopkins, had asked relatives, identified as Frederick Mopkins and Cortez McClinton, with killing essential witnesses to ensure her son’s release. Frederick Mopkins is accused of enlisting the help of Travon Knighten in the killing of James Moore. Travon Knighten, Cortez McClinton, and Frederick Mopkins have lengthy criminal histories, prosecutors said.

IMPD officer released from hospital after chase leads to shooting; suspect dead
Jeff TysonINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department who was shot during a pursuit that started on the city's northwest side Monday has been released from the hospital. Around 6:37 p.m. Monday, the one-year veteran officer reportedly stopped the suspect’s vehicle at the Marathon Gas Station at 7100 Georgetown because he had recognized it from criminal activity from earlier in the week. The officer requested backup and approached the vehicle. Police say that’s when the driver, Jeff Tyson, became “belligerent,” would not identify himself and began rolling up his window, ignoring the officers’ commands. Officers broke the window and fired pepper ball rounds into the vehicle in an effort to gain compliance. The passenger in the vehicle then got out of the vehicle and Tyson sped off and the chase began. The female passenger is either the girlfriend or wife of the suspect, police said. She was taken into custody to be questioned. Police have not said if she's been arrested or charged. After a short distance on Georgetown Road, police say Tyson made a U-turn and began firing at the officers. That’s when the officer who initiated the stop was hit in his lower right ankle and also suffered a graze wound to the back of his head. The officer riding with him was also struck and injured by debris, but did not require any medical attention. The pursuit eventually ended on the city’s east side near Rural Street and Newton Street, where police say Tyson continued to shoot. Police returned fire, killing the suspect.

He was running across the street and they killed my son," Lisa Simpson said through tears. The shooting was under investigation, Ramirez said. Sgt. One week later, hundreds have joined in as Longoria has continued to reach new milestones on her recovery journey at Jackson Memorial Hospital. "Please continue to pray for the same things as before and continued progress," Kiper said on Facebook. "She said 'Mama' yesterday...made my heart smile. She makes gestures with her hands." Kiper said the gestures indicate "I love you," "Bye," "a little bit" and "thumbs up." Longoria was able to breathe independent of the ventilator on Sunday, a milestone her family had been asking those including her in prayer requests to focus on. A second is the safe dissipation of two blood clots in Longoria's arm that she cannot receive medication for. Sometimes briefly, sometimes for about five to 10 minutes but not focusing her eyes yet, but that is normal at this stage." Longoria was on her way to work the morning of July 16 when she stopped at a convenience store. She was abducted at the store and taken to outside Gesthemane Cemetery, near Terry Wallace Memorial Park in Winnsboro, where she was shot in the head. Kevin Q. Before they got there, a woman saw them together and started asking questions. Richard McCluskey runs a clothing shop next door. He said the witness spoke with him after it was all over. "She (the witness) asked the woman if she was OK, and the woman said ‘No,’ and the man said, ‘Yes, she's OK,’” McCluskey said. The witness had apparently been walking down Main Street around 8:30 a.m., when she heard a scream and stopped. Police said once the woman realized something was wrong, she threw her car keys at Brown, allowing the victim to get free. She then called 911 as Brown ran off.
