(Black) Jennings man gets life sentence in fatal shooting (of White man) at St. Charles apartment
  ST. CHARLES, MO. • A 22-year-old Jennings man received a life sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a man last February at a St. Charles apartment complex. Wardell Davison Jr., of the 5300 block of Hamilton Avenue, also pleaded guilty to armed criminal action and robbery charges on Monday in connection with the death of Charles S. Dishman, 38, of St. Peters, authorities said. St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar said Circuit Judge Dan Pelikan sentenced Davison to 30 years each on those counts. The three sentences will run concurrently. Davison was among five men charged in the incident in the 200 block of Ameristar Boulevard. Melech Yachin Porter, 18, of the 8700 block of Kendale Drive in Bel-Ridge, pleaded guilty previously to the same charges and will be sentenced Dec. 14. A jury trial is set for Travon Johnson, 22, of the 3800 block of Manola Avenue in Pine Lawn, also for second-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action. The two others - Lamont D. Ware, 22, of the 3600 block of North 20th Street in St. Louis and Dennis Lamont Baker, 24, of the 4300 block of Melba Avenue in Northwoods - pleaded guilty to robbery last month and will be sentenced Jan. 4. Police said the five went to the Crestview Apartments looking for money and drugs but that Dishman, the shooting victim, wasn't a target. Davison, Baker, Porter and Ware went to a second-floor apartment while Johnson stayed in their car. When a woman answered the door, Davison put a gun to her head and Porter told others in the apartment to empty their pockets. During the robbery, Dishman stood up and Davison shot him, police said. - (Black-on-white) |
Eddie Ricky Nealy, whom a prosecutor called one of the most dangerous men in Fresno County’s history, was sentenced Friday to California’s death row for the 1985 rape and killing of Fresno teen Jody Lynn Wolf. Judge Arlan Harrell’s voice cracked and he nearly cried in Fresno County Superior Court when he announced Nealy’s death sentence. Nealy, 58, received the death penalty after a jury in September 2013 convicted him of rape and the first-degree murder of 14-year-old Jody, whose nude body was discovered floating face up in a southwest Fresno canal on Aug. 15, 1985. The runaway was wearing only knee-high socks. An autopsy revealed she died of blunt-force trauma to the back of her head and had been dead at least two days. In its decision, the jury said Nealy should be executed for killing Jody. “It was a cold, vicious murder in the commission of a rape,” Harrell said in announcing Nealy’s punishment. The judge said there was evidence presented at Nealy’s trial that showed he had killed Mary Charlotte Barnett in July 1988, but Nealy never was tried for it. Barnett’s nude body was found in a southwest Fresno field. She was hogtied and had a purse strap and brassiere tightly wrapped around her neck. The coroner said Barnett died as a result of ligature strangulation and had cuts, bruises and fractures on her face, as well as on other parts of her body. Nealy’s other convictions included three rapes, one robbery and child abuse. - (Black-on-white)

NORRISTOWN, Pa. – It’s effectively a life sentence for the man convicted of robbing the Whitpain Tavern in Blue Bell at gunpoint, and then forcing Montgomery County Community College to shut down during his manhunt two years ago. Montgomery County Judge Gary Silow told 43-year-old Tyrice Griffin “you’re a bad dude” as he sentenced him to 60-120 years in state prison for his role in three gunpoint robberies — one of them the Whitpain Tavern in November, 2013. Griffin was convicted of Third Degree Murder and a previous robbery in the 90s. His accomplice in the robberies, Jose (aka 'Juan') Garcia, was previously sentenced to 20-40 years in prison.

According to police, the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. along the 4800-block of Shamrock Drive, this is near the Lawrence Orr Elementary school. Initial reports indicate the shooting happened at a basketball court, but police have not confirmed that information. Officers say when they arrived, they found the body of 35-year-old 
WARRENTON, Mo. - An Audrain County man is found guilty of killing his wife last May. Ricky Harding, Jr. was convicted of second degree murder and found guilty of other charges. 12 jurors decided Harding's fate. The trial continued Friday in Warrenton with the defense calling witnesses followed by closing arguments from both sides. Harding had a short outburst in court while the prosecuting attorney described his daughter's testimony during the trial. 
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 29-year-old man accused of attacking a woman as she left a Nashville market Wednesday night is wanted by police for aggravated robbery and kidnapping. According to a release, Racardo Spencer was lying in the front passenger seat of the 46-year-old victim’s car when she exited the Obama Market on 40th Avenue around 11 p.m. Spencer allegedly ordered the woman to drive him to a nearby apartment building where he demanded cash. The victim complied with Spencer’s request before he allegedly struck her in the head when he became upset she only had $15. The victim reported to police that she left the Obama Market around 11 p.m. Police said Spencer was released from jail last month on a $20,000 bond for domestic assault and violating probation. Police added he has previous convictions for reckless homicide, cocaine possession and felon in possession of a weapon.
Lawyers for an Air Force vet charged with trying to join ISIS are fighting a push by prosecutors for an anonymous jury, claiming that the measure would be unfairly prejudicial. Arguing that ISIS sympathizers could target jurors in Tairod Pugh’s Brooklyn federal court proceeding, the feds have asked Judge Nicholas Garaufis to keep their identities confidential. “The possibility that a terrorist organization, the defendant, his associates, or their sympathizers, will target members of the jury in this case is a valid concern for potential members of the jury pool…,” a government submission states. 
RICHMOND, Va. — A Glen Allen man was arrested in connection with a November 16 homicide that left a woman dead in the woods. Jeffrey L. Michaux Jr., 24, of the 11000 block of Cobbs Road in Glen Allen, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a Richmond Police spokesperson. A man suspected of murdering the mother of one of his children has been taken into custody after a several-hour-long standoff with the FBI at a house in west Detroit. The standoff, punctuated by the firing of tear gas and the explosions of flash bang grenades throughout the morning, ended shortly before 1 p.m. when the man was taken into custody. It wasn't immediately clear if he surrendered or was captured. Family members of the suspect, identified as Jermaine Cooper, had arrived about an hour earlier. A woman who identified herself as Jermaine Cooper 's sister pleaded with him to surrender. "We're here Jermaine," yelled a woman, who said she was Cooper's sister. BRIDGEPORT -- After a racially charged letter was sent to the Bridgeport Police Department on February 9, State Police investigators said they found it was all a hoax. Former officer, Clive Higgins, 50, claimed to be a target of the letter, but was arrested Wednesday. Higgins, of Naugatuck, resigned from the Bridgeport Police Department on July 6. Back in February, Higgins said he found a letter that stated, in part, that black police officers belong in the toilet. The letter showed up in several officers’ mailboxes. At the time, it appeared to be an "inside job" because the letter was written on official police department letterhead, which is not available to the general public. The letter, titled "White Power," also referenced a highly publicized case involving three Bridgeport police officers, including Higgins. The officers were caught on camera kicking and stomping a man in Beardsley Park in May of 2011. Higgins, a 12-year veteran of the department, was the only black officer involved, and was the only officer acquitted of brutality charges. The other two officers, Elson Morales and Joseph Lawlor, pleaded guilty to federal misdemeanors. They resigned from the department and face up to a year in jail.
FOXHURST, Bronx -- A New York City police officer was arrested after being accused of exposing himself by a school in the Bronx Monday. Investigators say parents saw off-duty transit officer Wayne Roach exposing himself in his car just steps from the front door of PS 134 on Bristow Street in the Morrisania section just after noon. They also said he was intoxicated and passed out, and that while his head was completely covered, other parts of him were not. According to the criminal complaint, Roach was sitting behind the wheel of a green 2001 Honda Civic with the engine running. He had his "pants down...exposed, jacked over his face asleep...in public view." Roach, 35, is charged with lewdness and DWI. The 10-year veteran has been suspended from the force without pay. He was released on his own recognizance. 
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Police say a man tried to rape a woman at gunpoint and threatened to “blow her head off” if she didn’t take off her clothes during the incident early Wednesday. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. at the victim’s residence in the 400 block of Ritter Drive, Fayetteville Police say. Police say that the suspect, who is known to the victim, displayed a handgun and then gave orders to the victim. The suspect grabbed the victim and dragged her to the bathroom and told her he would “blow her head off if she didn’t take off her clothes,” police said. “The victim was able to fight back and the suspect fled the area but managed to take the victim’s phone,” police said. The 28-year-old woman identified her assailant as Phillip Eugene Simms, age 33, of the 5800 block of Somerton Place, Hope Mills, police said.

Police have arrested a prisoner who escaped their custody over a month ago. Gerald Brooks, 39, was busted at an apartment in Jamaica, Queens, Tuesday night after trying to jump out a second-story window on Bedell Avenue, police sources said.
A 22-year-old has been identified and charged in the violent holdup of a woman in the parking lot of a Birmingham Walmart last week. Birmingham police today announced charges against Jarod Dorsey. He is charged with second-degree robbery and is being held on $75,000 bond. Lt. Sean Edwards said investigators have obtained information on the second suspect, and are following up leads to track him down.
Authorities are searching for a 46-year-old Center Point man they say beat a Chihuahua to death with a mop handle. Marvis Rutledge is charged with first-degree cruelty to a dog. He remains at large. Jefferson County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Charter East Circle about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 11. A witness told deputies a man had been seen beating a small dog with a mop handle, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian. When the dog stopped moving and crying, the witness said, the man threw the dog into a dumpster. Deputies found and questioned Rutledge, and he told them he had left the dog tied to his back porch, but when he had gotten home the dog was gone. He identified the dog in the dumpster as his, but denied knowing how it had gotten there, Christian said. Rutledge is described as a black male, 5-feet, 9-inches tall weighing 180 pounds. He has previous convictions for burglary and public intoxication.
TUSCALOOSA, AL - Tuscaloosa police have officially identified the person shown beating a cat with a belt in a video posted online that sparked an animal cruelty investigation. Police say the person beating the cat is Brandon White, Police Chief Steven Anderson said in a news release on Friday. Investigators want to know the approximate time and date the video was made, as well as where it was taken. The police department says those are crucial pieces of information they need in order to request an arrest warrant. The video was posted to social media around Nov. 2. A total of $6,000 in reward money is now being offered for information in the case. The Humane Society of the United States is offering $5,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person who assaulted the cat.
