Affidavit: 5-year-old (White) Kansas girl was shot by (black) suspect, not police, during chase last summer
Marcus McGowanChristie HarrisCadence HarrisCadence HarrisLEAVENWORTH, Kan. – A court document says a 5-year-old girl who died during a police chase in eastern Kansas was shot by the man she was with, not by police officers. Cadence Harris was found dead inside a car driven by Marcas McGowan after he exchanged gunfire with Leavenworth police last July. Prosecutors allege McGowan took the girl from her mother's home in Atchison and led police on a chase that ended in Leavenworth County. Investigators provided details about who shot the girl after a judge ordered the release of an affidavit supporting felony first-degree murder and other charges against McGowan. He has pleaded not guilty. Investigators concluded that a "defect" inside the car was consistent with a bullet hitting the girl from inside the vehicle. - (Black-on-white)

So when two people are taking an early Sunday morning walk in the Loudoun County suburbs and are suddenly set upon by what seems like a pack of crazed wolves, there is no comfort. No explanation. And in the spring of 2009, there was a lot of fear running through eastern Loudoun County, and not a lot of answers. So far, only Jaime Ayala, 17 years old when the vicious attack on William and Cynthia Bennett occurred on Riverside Parkway in the Lansdowne area, has offered any explanation But he says he was only the driver of the van and that two other men — his longtime pal from Annandale, Darwin Bowman, then 18, and Anthony Roberts, then 19 — got out to rob and beat the couple, leaving William Bennett dead and his wife severely injured.

Pregnant White woman thankful for police, neighbors after brutal attack by black urinating in public
Winzell E. StarrCheryl ChristensenLEE'S SUMMIT, MO - A pregnant mother is thankful her baby was not hurt when a stranger brutally attacked her in her Lee's Summit neighborhood. She said she did everything she could to protect her unborn child as the man punched and kicked her. She is due to give birth to the child this week. The mother, Cheryl Christensen, agreed to tell her story if KCTV5 focused on the good that came after the vicious attack. She says her neighbors, church community and police did everything they could to help her family after she was violently assaulted. “I hunched over so that he wouldn't be able to aim at my belly,” Christensen said as she described the attack. “The first hit. He knocked out my eyesight. From the first blow it was really, really violent. Very painful.” Christensen says the attack happened on Dec. 13 when she went to check her mail. She saw a man urinating in public near her duplex where kids play and families park their cars. “I told him to use a bathroom because that is what they are for,” Christensen said. Police say Winzell E. Starr didn't like Christensen's scolding and rushed toward her. She told him she was seven months pregnant and tried to push him away from her belly. Police say that's when Starr began punching and kicking her. Christensen screamed for help. As she took blow after blow, she made sure to protect her unborn baby. Starr broke Christensen's nose in two places. Swelling from the beating caused temporary hearing loss and severe bruising. She had to get several stitches in her forehead.  - (Black-on-white)

"I just had this feeling," Ducsay told jurors Tuesday in Superior Court at the start of the murder trial of Matthew Pugh, the man accused of killing Alexandra Ducsay, a 26-year-old bank systems analyst and aspiring actress. Linda Ducsay said she immediately went to her daughter's bedroom in the basement of their home in the Devon section of Milford. She said she saw drops of blood on the radiator baseboards. "My mind sort of split in two. One part of me..." Ducsay said, taking a long pause as she dabbed her eyes with a tissue. "...saw that she was as stiff as a board, her long blonde hair was caked in blood. I knew she was dead." ...blood was splattered on walls and floors, Ducsay's head was bashed in, and she was missing an eyeball. Ducsay testified that her daughter first met Pugh when she was a teen. She continued the relationship after he went to prison. She would visit Pugh in prison, bring him things and take his daily collect phone calls. - (Black-on-white)

Black man choked and beat his white girlfriend to death
Timothy Darnell MosesAngel SchroederThe victim in Sioux Falls’ sixth homicide of last year was choked and beaten in her home. Timothy Darnell Moses, 39, was indicted on alternative counts of first- and second-degree murder and three counts of manslaughter in the Dec. 28 death of 36-year-old Angel Schroeder. A search warrant filed in the homicide investigation says Moses’ mother called police that morning to report that her son was threatening suicide by “telling the family goodbye” via text message. Moses answered the door bleeding from both wrists when officers arrived at the home he shared with Schroeder. He reportedly told police that his girlfriend was sleeping the bathroom, and officers found her on the floor, her head in the doorway and her feet propped up on the edge of the bath tub, “obviously deceased.” There was blood on the victim’s chest, shoulders, head and the floor. Police also spoke to the 13- and 11-year-old boys who’d been asleep in the basement and learned that the couple had been “fighting like crazy” the night before. One manslaughter charge accuses Moses of unintentionally killing a human being while committing the act of aggravated assault by causing serious bodily injury, another references killing during commission of aggravated assault by choking. Moses had been charged twice with aggravated assault by choking for alleged attacks on Schroeder and on a former roommate. If convicted of first-degree murder, he faces mandatory life in prison or death. Second-degree murder carries a penalty of mandatory life in prison, and manslaughter carries up to life. - (Black-on-white)

Langford Banda, 41, was just two miles away from his Jamaica home when he slammed into the police van on 180th Street shortly after midnight. The officers hopped out of the vehicle and noticed Banda reeked of booze and could barely walk straight. But Banda, who works as a second secretary of communications at the Zambian Mission to the United Nations, quickly identified himself as a diplomat, meaning cops were unable to give him a blood alcohol test. “He was a total mess,” a law enforcement source said. “He got off because he’s a diplomat. Not our choice.”

Hispanic serial killer who lured victims with cheap designer jeans admits to third murder
Jesus AguileroA Bronx serial killer who came to the United States during the 1980 Mariel boatlift from Cuba — and then lured victims to their deaths with promises of cheap designer blue jeans — has pleaded guilty to his third murder. Jesus Aguilero, who is already behind bars for two murders, suddenly switched his not-guilty plea in the 1981 killing of 35-year-old mom Tolila Brown last week. Aguilero, 61, reversed his plea partly because details of his other horrific murders could have been discussed in court, virtually sealing his fate anyway. He was put behind bars after being convicted in the 1981 killings of Guillermo Graniela, 30, and Josefina Cepeda, 24. Aguilero is also believed to be responsible for the death of Janet Agosto, 20, in 1982.

Police credit DNA technology with cracking (black on White female) 1981 cold case
Carolyn Lee AndrewCecil Wayne OliverLaw enforcement officials are still not sure how the body of 17-year-old Carolyn Lee Andrew ended up in a shallow grave in Duluth’s Twin Ponds in 1981. They don’t know why the aspiring model was shot once in the right temple. They don’t know where she was in the hours leading up to her death. And they don’t know when her body was dumped in the popular swimming hole eight miles from her Woodland home. But nearly 34 years later, authorities believe they’ve finally determined the identity of her killer. Crediting advances in DNA technology, local and state officials said Monday that they’ve tied the homicide to Cecil Wayne Oliver, who died in 1988. While there was no apparent relationship between the two, investigators said it appears that Andrew encountered Oliver in a Superior bar the night before her disappearance. Carrie Andrew’s body was found facedown, partially submerged in Twin Ponds near Enger Park on May 6, 1981. She had died of a single small-caliber bullet to her head. And the night before her disappearance, they believe the two had an encounter at the Cove Bar in Superior. Witnesses who were there that night described a man named Cecil incessantly talking to Andrew and unsuccessfully attempting to get her phone number. - (Black-on-white)

Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck confirmed that Maxwell Morton, 16, was charged as an adult in the shooting death of Ryan Mangan. Authorities said Mangan, 16, was found shot to death inside his mother’s Rankin Avenue home around 10 p.m. Wednesday. The selfie “depicted the victim sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to the face,” according to a police affidavit. “It also depicts a black male taking the selfie with his face facing the camera and the victim behind the actor.     Court Stops Parole Bid for Black Panther Convicted of Killing New Jersey Trooper
Werner FoersterClark Edward Squire New Jersey's Supreme Court has put the brakes on the parole bid of a man convicted in the 1973 murder of a state trooper. The justices on Thursday granted the state attorney general's request that Sundiata Acoli not be paroled until the court decides whether to hear arguments in his case. Acoli, then known as Clark Edward Squire, was convicted with current fugitive Joanne Chesimard in the murder of trooper Werner Foerster during a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike. Chesimard was found guilty but escaped from prison and eventually fled to Cuba, where she was granted asylum by Fidel Castro. She is now living as Assata Shakur and is the first woman placed on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist List. According to court documents, Acoli's gun went off during a struggle with Foerster, who had responded as backup after another officer pulled over the car for a broken taillight. The state contended Chesimard shot Trooper James Harper, wounding him, then took Foerster's gun and shot him twice in the head as he lay on the ground. A third man in the car, James Costen, died from his injuries at the scene. - (Black-on-white)

Marie Abraham came into court Thursday to be sentenced for felony child endangering. She took the unusual step of entering an Alford plea in the case, which states that she admits prosecutors could convict her. It set the stage for a sentencing hearing that put the pain of her family, and the victim’s family on display. Cole Arata was in the care of Marie Abraham back in May 2012, when she ran a daycare from her home. Cole suffered severe head trauma that left him in the hospital for 144 days.     Tiffany Mogenson’s (White) family ‘sickened’ by prosecutors’ plea deal with (black) man charged in fatal Prairie Village wreck
Roy Lee ManeyTiffany MogensonThe family of Tiffany Mogenson expressed shock and dismay at Johnson County prosecutors’ decision to accept a plea deal from Roy Lee Maney, the man charged with first-degree murder after hitting Mogenson’s car at the intersection of 75th Street and Roe Avenue in October 2013 while traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour. Maney stood solemnly in the Johnson County courtroom alongside attorney Mark DuPree as Judge Brenda Cameron read the reduced list of charges — reckless second degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident — to which he had agreed to plead guilty. Attorney Jason Billam, representing Mogenson’s family, told the court that they would have preferred for Maney to face the first-degree murder charge in a jury trial. Moreover, Billam said, removing the additional charges Maney faced — aggravated battery and obstruction of the legal process — made the plea deal too favorable for the defendant. Mogenson’s family filed out of the courtroom, many with tears streaming down their cheeks. - (Black-on-white)
